Johnson is what you call a beast inside. She has a strong build which allows her to get position and score at will. A player you dont want to get in front of as she will make you pay with her physical play inside. Has great leaping ability and rebounding skills. A player that can be considered undersized for the post, but she works hard to finish and has a great over the shoulder finish at the rim. Runs the floor well which leads to easy transition points.
Janiyah was one of the first players I noticed when she got out and started warming up on the court. At 5’10 Johnson has good height to along with the extraordinary strength she possesses. She looked like a player and when we chatted briefly, she told me that she plays in GIAA and that she was coming off an ACL injury, which explained why I had not seen her play. It was easy to see after a couple of quick minutes, however, why Johnson is a two-time All-Region performer as she is heads into her Junior season. She did a nice job creating space on the perimeter to elevate and knock down jump shots by using the triple threat position, an excellent jab step, and only a couple of dribbles. Inside, Johnson was very good finishing around the rim, which was to be expected. It was her footwork however that was most impressive to me. Janiyah was able to get around defenders in tight quarters in the paint without turning the ball over or forcing bad shots. She has the ability to not only make plays for herself, but also her teammates because of the mismatch she causes at the stretch four position. She looks like a college player right now.
Johnson was one of the most physically imposing players in attendance. She embraced contact, fought for position, and consistently came up with rebounds in traffic. As the day went on, she only got stronger, turning rebounds into second and third-chance points. She also showed flashes of playmaking, making smart reads on drive-and-kick situations and pushing the ball in transition. Defensively, she protected the rim with well-timed blocks. A force inside.

immediately passes the eye-test. Janiyah guards sideline to sideline in the open floor and is a reliable rim protector. Johnson scores through contact in the paint. Expect Johnson’s numbers to jump after Calvary Day’s top three scorers have graduated. Janiyah averaged 3.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Her physique stepping into high school is unreal. The fact that she knows how to use her size and strength to dominate is even more impressive. Dominant on the low block inside, Johnson also has a pretty fade away 3 point shot from beyond the arc. She is well rounded and ready to tear up the south Georgia basketball scene!
