Small town sharpshooter, who has turned college coaches’ heads with recent offers from local SNU and Austin of Sherman, Texas. She has some of the deepest range in Oklahoma. Comfortably pulling from well beyond on the arc. Is deadly as a spot up threat, but with her quickness and fluidity she gets into her shooting form quickly and easily off the bounce. With quickness, handles and energetic play to go along with her shooting ability, it’s not surprising regional collegiate are starting to prioritize one of Oklahoma’s bests from the small town ranks.

Smith is a 1,000 point scorer for the Class 2A 8th ranked, 14-5 Latta. This year she has been blistering the nets. With multiple games of 5 of more three pointers. Including an 18 point, five three pointer performance in a win over Class 3A top 10 Bethel. Smith is well tested and prepared for a potential playoff run. As Latta has played in premier tournaments, including the Bertha Teague Classic and the Kingston Holiday Classic. She also was a big time producer and riser from regional AAU play.

I you are in search of a defensive PG that can also shoot the 3-point shot check out Jayse. I had the opportunity to watch her play in two PGH Circuit events this summer and at both events her game was the same level suggesting that her game is very consistent every game. If you are looking for a quick athletic guard that would excel in I believe a run/jump defense style with a attack the rim attitude Jayse would be a great fit. A player that will be a key component in Latta making a run at state this season.

A point guard that when I watching you can see that every bounce with the ball has a purpose. The shifty ball handler is using a pocket dribble and shift of the feet just wafting to attack the open gap getting to the rim for the layup. If was fun to watch her set up the defender guarding her and the help defender coming in rotation. Great reads on thee help defender kicking to the ball to the open teammate. What makes her a double threat is you just cannot sit back and protect the drive as she can knock down the 3-pointer as well, with range I might add.
On the press defense she does an amazing job at reading the rhythm of the bounces just timing to make her move. Most of the steals on the ball where when the ball handler just pushed down on the dribble leaving the hand off the ball. Jayse jumped the ball with an inside shoulder dig to get the steal without fouling. A very high IQ I would say. A 2027 that I believe will have a great Junior season this year in school ball.

A quick point guard that has a nice pocket hesi to change her speed and direction getting by her defender Nice vision against the pressure always keeping her eyes up the floor. A good sense of reading the defense in half court sets seeing the open spots before it happens. Great example is the back door cut passes for layups. The outside shooting ability stretches out the defense creating driving lanes for her
Tough defender on the ball that works you side to side just wanting to take a weak crossover or pick back pocket on the reverse spin. An up-tempo guard that never seemed to get tired on the court.

Miss Energy for Latta. Smith seemed to be everywhere on defense, always coming up with loose balls and forcing steals. Also was a handful off the dribble, feasting in transition. And getting paint touches in the halfcourt. Good vision and accuracy on passes. Has had a very productive two years to start off her high school career.

After starting off cold, Latta star hit her next eight shots, ending up as the game’s high scorer with 17. Dynamic sophomore guard should be adding Bertha Teague All-Tournament team to her list of accomplishments as Latta heads towards the winners bracket.

Smith impressed off the top with her “on the ball” pressure coupled with her quick hands that led to steals. She did a good job setting the defender up by using a deceptive first step to attack and finish but she also showed she could creation to get her shot off
