About Jazlynn
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I would describe my gameplay style as controlled and composed. I play at my own pace, do a good job of getting to the basket, and I’m always ready to knock down an open three. I take pride in playing strong defense and making the right reads, especially when it comes to finding my teammates when they’re open. Overall, I see myself as a true point guard who looks to lead the game in every area.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I would describe my mentality as tough, competitive, and resilient. I play with a dog mentality and always go after the ball. I do not let the last play stay in my head, whether it was good or bad, because I stay focused on the next one. Even during tough games, and i bring energy no matter the situation. If I make a mistake or turn the ball over,I take pride in doing whatever it takes to get it.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am involved in the BSU (Black Student Union), which has helped me build connections, represent my school community, and be part of something bigger than sports.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Through basketball and school involvement, I’ve developed strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. I’ve learned how to lead by example, stay positive under pressure, encourage and support my teammates, and work together toward a common goal both on and off the court. These experiences have helped me grow not just as a player, but as a person.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was learning that I was losing hearing in one ear. I had to adapt to playing basketball while using a hearing aid and navigate the fear of backlash from others. This experience taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying confident no matter the obstacles.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for a medium-sized college, ideally an HBCU, that offers a strong pre-law program or a connected law school. I’d like to be somewhere far enough to experience something new, but not too far from home. I’m interested in a school with a small Division I or Division II basketball program where I can continue to grow as a player and a student.
