About Kaelyse
Expert Analysis
Brandon Bradley | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Kaelyse had her best high school season as a Senior, and she has progressively gotten better each year. She is a huge presence in the paint, whether she is finishing easy half-hooks over smaller defenders, or she sticks her arms up on defense and deters opponents. She has heard from several NJCAA Division I schools, and she is reportedly leaning a specific way, but she has yet to make an official commitment or make it public. She still has a rather high ceiling, however, and I anticipate her continuing to improve throughout college.

Kaelyse’s growth and development as a basketball player over the last five years has been an interesting watch. She has always been tall, but she has gotten stronger, more athletic, and she has really improved her skill and awareness around the basket. Now, you can see the instincts start to kick in a little, and she is making more natural post moves around the block. She has soft hands and a solid half-hook, but if she could improve anywhere, it would still be switching ends of the floor quicker. She has drawn a great deal of NJCAA interest.

Since seeing Kaelyse for the first time between her 7th & 8th Grade years, she has consistently improved bit by bit each year. She has become more comfortable in her frame, she has gotten stronger, and she continues to add skill to her play. She is a size mismatch nearly every time out, so simply keeping the ball high and finishing through contact is key for her. After a Junior year that saw her average 8.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, I look for her to approach a double-double as a Senior, especially if she can stay on the floor longer.

Kaelyse has stood out for quite some time, because she has always been tall. However, she is starting to figure it all out and have consistent efforts each game. She is using her frame to create physicality instead of just lean on defenders, and she’s finding that she’s able to rise above shot-blocking arms and finish. Defensively, she is running in transition much better, and she’s most comfortable rooting out her matchup and keeping them off the lane. She will still need to sit down lower and wider and defend out on the floor better, but her growth as a player over the last 12-18 months has been nice to see.
