About Karissa

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My style of play is that I like to attack the basket with the intent of scoring every time. I feel if stretched out away from the basket that I am a very good jump shooter from mid-range. I love to rebound and play on defense. I believe that defense is the key to winning basketball games.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is usually calm. At times I feel pressured to perform well and have to calm myself down and just play ball. My personality is easy going and easy to get along with. I believe I can get along with most people in most situations.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a member of national honor society and also an active member in my church. I have received numerous awards from my school that have to do with being a student and has nothing to do with my athletic abilities.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have learned how to be a leader on all the teams that I play on. Since I play multiple sports, it forces me to ask questions and have an understanding for what everyone on the court needs to do. I have also learned to be vocal and lead by example, not just voice. Working with a team is something that I take pride in because I believe teams can be very strong, when they spend time together.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced challenges as a multi-sport athlete by having to balance multiple sports at the same time. Sometimes this makes me feel like I always don't know my role on the team right away.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college that cares about me as a person just as much as they do me as a basketball player. I want a place that feels like home and that will allow me to grow as a woman and as a student athlete.

Karissa has good footwork around the basket and some quick spin moves to boot for a Big. She runs the floor very well and is usually ready for an outlet pass because she is normally outrunning her defender. She knows how to seal her defender in the post, whether on the block or in front of the rim underneath the basket. Karissa is already an expert at drawing contact on her shot attempts near the basket. She makes sure to lean in and draw fouls with the presence of mind to also finish the And-1. During the showcase, Karissa must’ve had what felt like 100 Free throws overall, and she went 100 for 100 as far as I’m concerned. I did not see her miss any of them. She should’ve held a Wilt Chamberlain “100 sign” up after The Expo.
