Phillips put on shows galore in front of me on the Prep Girls Hoops circuit and not only was she one of the top SHOOTERS this season, she was also one of the top scorers, and her mid to long-range in pressure situations was refreshing because she wanted the ball down the stretch and she delivered. Her court vision and defense stood out, she hit the boards on both ends and played the passing lane

This young lady possess an unassuming strength to her game and a knack for finding the ball. Phillips can do a little bit of everything, and this will always increase an individual’s playing time. She hit timely three’s for her team, and her sweet spot seems to be in the corners. Once her shot has been discovered, she’ll blow by her man on the perimeter to pull up and knock down the mid range shot. I was most impressed by her display of sacrificing her body. She was diving on the floor for loose balls, falling out of bounds, or fighting for the ball in very aggressive jump ball tie ups. On this squad she could be deemed a glue player, but on any roster “KP” makes a strong difference when she is on the floor.

Phillips has been on fire every time I caught her this season and opening the CLASH with a double-double sort of the set the tone for the weekend. Let me start with one of her major attractions “she’s a BIG GUARD that can shoot” and over my 15 or more years of EVALUATING, that’s something next level coaches love to see. Yeah, she drops it from deep but her midrange gave defenders problems but so did her scoring off the dribble and finishing after the lick. I mentioned the double-double, she hit the boards on both ends, and even handled the ball afterward to score going coast to coast a few times

Phillip stands around “the magic number” yet the magic really starts when she has the ball because she has a very nice yet deceptive first step, slight HEZ to get the defender leaning, and scores powerfully after contact. She also hits the boards on both ends and scores around the basket, putbacks included. What about the magic? Well her “catch and shoot” from deep has been one of the best on the circuit this season yet her game is diverse and she understands how to get her teammates involved as well

Kayla is a high intensify player that leaves it all on the court. A physical player in the low post area puts her in this category for me. Impressive was her work ethic on the defense and offense boards. Post moves inside the 3 feet area where strong playing through the contact for the finish. At times she played the 3-4 spots moving without the ball creating open shots for herself. Kayla can shoot making her a very versicle player

Phillips started the event off smoking in game 1, so much that she caught the eye of my colleague at another gym yet the fire wasn’t put out when she arrived to Timberview as she immediately dropped a catch and shoot 3 to start the game. Her size and athleticism came in handy as she scored off the dribble and around the basket, plus she defended and rebounded on both ends
