Marshall did an excellent job controlling and dictating the pace of the game, showing a strong understanding of when to push in transition and when to slow things down. She consistently scored from the midrange, knocking down pull-up jumpers throughout the night. Defensively, she was a constant menace, coming up with multiple steals by picking the offense’s pocket and turning them into fast-break layups. She also showed her ability to involve her teammates, creating scoring opportunities and keeping everyone engaged offensively.

The one true guard and only senior on this roster is Topeka High’s Marshall. She was one of my favorite players to watch last season and will have one responsibility on this team: distribute the ball. She is an unselfish player and has more sand in her game than can be found in the Llano Estacado. Like Caryl, she does the quiet things to win games, like chasing loose balls, creating steals, and taking charges. Marshall is ranked No. 35 overall by PGH. She is a grinder who can thrive in a secondary role on a team filled with scorers. So now the only question is, Whose Got Next?

Every icon has a sidekick, and every team needs a role player. Topeka High’s Marshall fills both roles to a tee. She is Hogan’s Mr. T, and she is every third baseman who played with Sandberg (and there were many). She will do the gritty things in a game that often get overlooked. She can make a key steal or find a wide-open player that others would miss. She is an unselfish player and is worth the price of admission to a Trojans game.

I first saw Marshall at a October 2022 and her game has only gotten more impactful. She is a lock down defender with terrific handles and creative scoring ability. After coming up short in a sub-state final to reach the 6A state tournament Marshall was named to the Centennial League first team, SIK second team and KBCA and KSHSAA honorable mention lists.

Marshall is an impressive defensive guard I saw play a couple of times last season. She plays fundamental defense with her feet and hands. She does not get into foul trouble regularly. She was a secondary scorer for the Trojans last season, but she has the ability to get out into transition and finish at the rim with her left or right. Marshall is ranked No. 34 and a solid argument can be made that she should be ranked higher

Keimara is an example of a point guard who can play lock down defense on the ball. The defense pressure she applied had the opposing team struggling to run their offense. Nice handles using a crossover move to by the defender finishing with a sweet floater in the paint. Made good decisions and showed control from the point guard position getting her team set up.
