Expert Analysis
Philip Gray | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
From a skill perspective Kendal is the most advanced in the 3A Girls tournament. As a big guard, her handles is D1 college level. She is also the fastest player from end to end in the tournament as well which is saying a lot. She is very aggressive offensively as a slasher and as a shooter. She absolutely thrives on the fast break, and she knows it too. Her defensive attacks and playing in the passing lanes proved way too much for the Holcomb Longhorns. Her hands are constantly active even when the ball is on the other side of the court. She knows her defense will transition into her fast break offense where her dribbling, speed, and shiftiness will take over. Kendal played basically the entire game on fast break watch until it got out of reach for Holcomb. She can run for days, and it showed in tonight’s matchup where Holcomb actually got out early to a double-digit lead over the Swathers early in the first half. The pace eventually caught up to Holcomb and Kendal despite having an off night seemed to visually dominate the contest.

I first saw Brueggan against the Ava Jones led Nickerson Wildcats in a sub-state semi-final game on the Wildcats’ floor. Despite losing she served notice that she was a shooter with range and good transition speed. Fast forward to today, her game has only continued growing. Her defensive abilities have notably improved to the point where she now holds offers from division I and II schools with a long way to go in her high school career. The Central Prairie League first teamer also earned KBCA and Varsity Kansas second team honors in 2023.

Kendal is a small forward who is not afraid to get herself open. She makes it so that she is hard to guard. She happens to get a lot of her shots off by getting herself open and taking shots at the three point line. Whether that is off a fast break or tripping up her defender. If she is open, you are in trouble. At the three point line she is a threat because that is a shot she is perfecting. Although she is a smaller guard, she has the speed to get down the lane on multiple people. One of the moves she has on lock is to sweep the ball through defenders and score. Makes her a dangerous player when down by the basket.
