Laniah has endeared herself to fans in Northwest Indiana, and the combination of her team’s success and her individual prowess will force “Region” people to decide if they should vote for her or Barnes (above). Davis is on the favorite team to win the Class 1A North Semi-State this season, and the Blazers are 84-22 during her 4 years with 3 Sectional titles, 2 Regional titles, 2 Final Four appearances, and a State Runner-Up trophy. She has amazed with her 2000+ points, her 749 rebounds, and her 300+ steals, plus she has averaged 19.6 points per game for her career. Being from a Class 1A school, will some voters hold that against her, even though she has proven herself against big schools and has committed to a Division I program?

has been a standout for Marquette Catholic since her freshman year, steadily building an impressive résumé as one of the top guards in Northwest Indiana. Her development each season has been evident, as she’s expanded her game to become a complete offensive threat. Davis attacks the rim with ease, has the ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc, and is comfortable pulling up for mid-range jumpers off the dribble. That versatility makes her difficult to defend and allows her to impact the game in multiple ways. Her résumé speaks for itself—leading Marquette Catholic to a state championship appearance as a sophomore and capturing a Regional Championship as a junior. Now entering her senior year, Davis has her sights set on making another deep postseason run, with a realistic chance of returning to the state championship stage. With her leadership and ability to take over games, she is firmly in the conversation for Northwest Indiana Player of the Year honors.

Laniah is another strong, well-established standout at the high school level, but I would expect her college list to have grown quite a bit since the June “scholastic live” period. She is a scoring machine, and she proved that throughout July. Her ability to get to the basket, especially to her right, is tough to match. She is physical on approach, she absorbs contact as well as anyone, and she plays extremely hard. She is a talented offensive rebounder, and I think she can become an elite on-ball defender considering her physical talent.

Laniah is another elite downhill attacker, especially to her right, and she absorbs contact extremely well, manages to maintain her balance, and finishes in a variety of ways within about 5-feet of the basket. She is playing with a lot of intent this grassroots season, looking to bring attention to her game, plus she has been very effortful at the defensive end of the floor. She is shooting it a little more consistently outside, and as that continues, watch out!

She is aggressive defensively, averaging 3.4 steals per game. She closed the season averaging 19.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

Laniah was a strong scorer two seasons ago as a Freshman. Now, she is a powerful guard who is incredibly difficult to defend off the dribble. She can get to the rim, she explodes up through contact to finish, and she is an excellent offensive rebounder who can find caroms quicker than defenders to score it around the rim consistently. Defensively she will sit down and engage ball-handlers, and she’s able to use her frame to keep them from getting far. She will still need to become a bit more dangerous from deep, though.
