About Layla
Expert Analysis
Cedric Cobb | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Curtis, playing with Run N Gun, drew plenty of defensive attention throughout the event but never looked rattled. The sophomore guard handled pressure with composure, continued to create offense, and did a good job balancing her scoring with getting teammates involved. Her maturity with the ball was impressive.

does not disappoint as she is a show stopper. I was impressed with her offensive skill set as she can score at will in bunches at a time from all over the court. Curtis is only scratching the surface of her potential as she continues to emerge as one of the top prospects in her class. I could see her playing at a mid major plus or high major program in the near future.

Long-range sniper alert! Layla was lights out on the perimeter all weekend long. Elite spot-up shooter when she gets her feet set. Layla can attack the basket as well. Her layup package is impressive. Finishes with either hand at a variety of angles. Defensively, Layla plays with heart, IQ, and toughness. She is willing to take the charge, dive for the loose ball, and do whatever else is necessary to impact winning. Intriguing 2-way scorer who has made plenty of noise this year.

Fresh off a state championship season, Curtis looked right at home competing up a level. The guard provided steady all-around play with her ball handling, defensive activity, and ability to knock down the three-point shot, which was one of her biggest strengths throughout the weekend.

The freshman, who was voted MVP of the game, stepped onto the biggest stage and looked right at home, helping lead Tuba City to the Copper Division state title. Curtis played with a calm demeanor and a controlled tempo, never looking rushed while handling a heavy offensive load. She finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, consistently getting downhill and drawing contact. Curtis has a mature feel for the game for a freshman guard and showed she can shoulder responsibility in big moments.

Just a freshman, but you wouldn’t know it watching her. Curtis has carried Tuba City like a seasoned upperclassman. Poised, confident, and productive. She controls tempo, scores at all three levels, and doesn’t shy away from big moments. If the Warriors are taking this one, Layla has to be Layla — aggressive, composed, and in command.

Curtis was the engine that made things go for Tuba City and, unofficially, the most valuable player of the division. The freshman point guard played beyond her years, showing impressive composure, scoring instincts, and feel for the game. She picked her spots well offensively and never forced the action. What stood out most was her command—she understood when to attack and when to keep teammates involved.

Curtis arrived at Tuba City with expectations, and she’s exceeded them. The Ballyhood freshman has a very advanced feel for the game, particularly for a point guard at this stage of her development. She sees the floor well, keeps teammates involved, and can score when needed. Curtis is a true offensive threat who can hurt defenses in multiple ways, whether it’s getting downhill, pulling up, or making plays off the bounce.

is going to make a huge impact for Tuba City this season. She is already holding a couple College offers, and she will be very highly recruited before her career is over. She is an excellent 3 point shooter. She can score on all 3 levels and she is a very good ball handler. She is a very versatile athlete that also excels in Volleyball and Cross Country. Look for Tuba City to be in contention for a State Title the next 4 years.
