had herself a great season, contributing in big spots all year; A key reason that helped the Lady Spartans reach the 4A State Finals last season. Throughout the season, Valdez was a terrific shooter & 3pt specialist that was “lights out”. Valdez averaged 11.5 ppg & hit 66 totals 3s on the year at an impressive 46% clip. As we head into the 22-23′ season, Leah will perhaps be in store for a huge challenge – Filling the void left by the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year for NM Girls Basketball, her fellow teammate, Jules Aragon, who graduated and is now playing at New Mexico Highlands. Now, Valdez by no means has to be the type of player Aragon was, she is her own. What I am saying is the production cannot drastically drop-off if Bernalillo wants to be Title Contenders again. It will take a collective to make up for Aragon’s nearly 30 ppg – But it is going to have to start with Leah as the ball will and should be in her hands more frequently going forward. I believe she is capable of the task and look forward to seeing it unfold.

3pt specialist who can “light it up” in the half court. Terrific in catch & shoot situations primarily off of “kickout passes” – teammate penetrates the lane than kicks it out to corner or wing.
