About Leighton

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

While young and still developing my fundamentals, I’m a very aggressive player offensively and defensively. If the ball is on the floor, I’m on it. I can handle the ball, as well as post up, scoring several of my seasonal points off of rebounds.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I love basketball. I’m super competitive but I believe that you play better if you’re enjoying the game. I believe it’s very important to focus on your teammates verses mistakes during games, which keeps my head in the game. Hustle and hard work trump the perfect game because not every game is going to be perfect.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

FCA, Honors Math, Honor Roll

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Learning to lead has been a challenge that I’m developing and working to overcome. Leaders are encouraging and lead by example. Leadership comes from the bench, cheering during a break, and it’s also working with the younger girls explaining drills.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Last season I fractured my growth plate. This was the middle of my first basketball season. During this time, while I was feeling super discouraged, I learned to focus on others, hype up my team, and pour my efforts into helping them. That was my role on the team for that 6 weeks. It helped teach me leadership skills and a positive attitude.

What type of college are you looking for?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’m young and my options and mind are open. I want to find a school that is the best fit with me and my style. That will change over the next few years since I am young.
