Expert Analysis
Danyle Bowers | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Leila earned First Team All-Conference honors as a junior and returns as one of the most dangerous backcourt players in the OK Silver. A quick, composed guard, she thrives in the open floor—immediately pushing the tempo and creating offense before defenses can settle. Her tight handle allows her to maneuver through traffic, break pressure, and keep possessions under control, while her awareness helps her find teammates for high-quality looks in transition or the half court. Leila can score at all three levels, but her perimeter shooting gives her an extra edge, forcing defenders to play her honestly and opening up driving lanes. With her blend of speed, skill, and decision-making, she’s poised to be a major difference-maker again in her senior season.

used her quickness and length to impact the game on both sides of the floor for West Michigan Crust at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic. She is elusively quick on her downhill drives to the basket and finished multiple layups at the rim. Leila attacked baseline off the dribble, came into a jump stop, then transferred to score with her right. She drilled a wing 3, stole passes, chased down offensive rebounds, and froze her defender with a hesitation dribble to draw a foul on her drive.

Leila is a really exciting younger prospect who still has a couple of years of high school ball left in front of her. She is extremely long and wiry, she has speed, and she’s somewhat bouncy. I was most impressed with her willingness to accept contact as she attacked the basket, and she kept her balance and finished in a variety of ways at odd angles, often drawing and-1s. She showed a quiet toughness, and I think once she gets stronger, she could be even more consistent scoring it. She does have some touch outside, but as she continues to gain strength, she’ll be almost automatic.

17U on Sunday. She caused havoc on defense deflecting passes, blocking shots, and stealing the ball. Leila put her shoulder into the chest of her defender on a drive from the wing and finished contested off the glass. She burst through the defense to finish many drives and demonstrated sportsmanship by helping up her opponent. Leila motored full speed into her defender at the rim and then knocked down her FT. Leila has the handles to create space off the dribble and shoot from outside. One of her best plays was an explosive baseline drive and smooth reverse finish.
