Whitaker has incredible speed and has great skill handling the ball on the move. Can shoot from well beyond the perimeter. Very strong on ball defender who will pressure her opponents the length of the court. Forces turnovers and will get the steal and quickly take it the other way for the score. Very active off the ball. Elite awareness makes high level reads and reacts on them quickly.

Whitaker has a great junior season where she ran the offense for the Caballeros. She was selected to the 5A Southern Region Second Team in what was a very talented region. A very confident shooter with a quick release who showed her ability to knock down the deep three ball. She hit a season high eight from beyond the arc against Cienega. Very quick and see the floor at a high level. Whitaker averaged 11.8 points, 2.6 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals. Plays the game with a fast past and great composure. Get to the paint effectively and makes strong passes through traffic.

Whitaker might be the quickest 2027 guard in Southern Arizona. She leads a talented Caballeros roster. She has speed and is very skilled with great vision and play making ability. Whitaker has some long range and can also score well attacking the basket. Whitaker put up 11.8 points, 2.6 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 3 steals per game this season. She had a season high 27 against a tough Cienega team. She will return for a senior year that should see her lead the Caballeros back to the playoffs and gain attention from college coaches.

Whitaker is a true point guard with very good speed and high level vision. Very strong defensively, again with her speed and ability to move laterally very well. She slips through screens extremely well and stays on her opponents. Quick hands to pop the ball out from her opponents. Does a great job of identifying the open lane and attacking. Sees what the defense gives up and is quick to make the play. Has the ability to shoot well beyond the arc. Leila has a high ceiling and can elevate in the rankings.

This was the first time I got to see Whitaker play in this setting. She was impressive. A high IQ point guard who doesn’t get rattled easy. Handles the ball very well and sets her team up for success. She was great in the pick and roll and made the right passes. A very good three ball that she can knock down off the dribble at a high percentage. Quick and scrappy on the defensive end and doesn’t let up.

Leila Whitaker Leila Whitaker 5'7" | CG State AZ is just now starting to get back to full speed after an ACL tear in 2023. She is an Outstanding shooter especially from 3. She is fearless on the offensive end, and thrives in pressure situations. She is a terrific ball handler and decision maker that will settle into the point guard position with her older sister graduating. She is a good defender and she has a great attitude and work ethic. She will play on the next level.

Leila Whitaker Leila Whitaker 5'7" | CG State AZ is another under the radar player that is a deadly shooter from the 3 point line. She has deep range on her shots and can hit consistently under pressure. She is a good ball handler and defender. One year removed from a knee injury, this sophomore has tremendous upside and potential.
