Coach Jon Herbrechtsmeyer of Bethel University has a long history of recruiting under-the-radar talent and getting the best out of them at the collegiate level. As much as Morrissey’s game has already grown in the latter stages of her high school career, it’s going to be fun to watch her evolution playing for Herby. After a strong performance at the PGH Expo in September, Lily has put together a huge senior season. Morrissey is a force down low where the 6-footer scores consistently through contact. As a result, she leads the 20-win Schaeffer Academy-Hayfield co-op in scoring and so much more.

Morrissey averaged 14.7 points per game last season thanks to persistence on the glass and strong footwork in the paint. At 6’0, she scores through contact and impacts play in many ways. A skilled rebounder and interior scorer, Morrissey’s presence gives Hayfield/Schaeffer Academy a reliable weapon inside. Lillian is an intriguing prospect whose best basketball will come at the next level.

Morrisey’s performance at the Expo made a distinct impression on our scouts, despite picking up an injury during the 5-on-5 competition. Lily was highly persistent on the glass, crashing the boards with great timing and using her length and positioning to bring down rebounds. The 6’0 forward was also an offensive threat in the paint. With a strong set of footwork and the ability to play through contact, Lily is a highly effective scorer around the rim. In her junior season, Morrisey led all scorers for the combined Hayfield/Schaffer Academy squad, with 14.7 points per contest. No doubt she’ll play a massive role for the Vikings this year.

Give me five players like this as a coach and I bet even I could win a few games. Morrisey just seems to always be in the right place at the right time. Sometimes with players that happens by accident, but not in this case. It’s hard to guard someone who doesn’t stop moving. I watched Morrisey during the 3×3 action and during the two showcase games and it was the same thing, She just has a good feel on where to be. It’s one thing to be in the right place, but to be able to capitalize on it is what’s important. That ability led to numerous offensive rebounds for put-backs and layups from being in the right spot when her teammates would penetrate. When she wasn’t gobbling up all the offensive rebounds, Lillian stepped outside the arc and displayed her ability to knock down the 3-ball. On the defensive side, her 5’11 frame and long limbs altered many shots and made it flat out tough for opponents to get quality looks. Keep an eye on this one; she is far from finished.

Air Minnesota is a program that runs some great action throughout all of their grade-levels. Someone that is a Swiss-army knife type prospect for their 16U group is Lillian Morrisey. Morrisey has the ability to go off and have a double-double every game but that is not how she thinks about things. All she is trying to do is make the right play and help out her fellow teammates in the long run throughout the duration of a contest. This weekend that was on full display. Morrisey was one of the first on the floor for loose balls, she was rebounding at a high rate, and she was leaving it all on the floor – effort wise. This is one of those prospects that is willing to always help out others without getting the praise or attention and that is noteworthy. Morrisey is someone that I would personally love to coach. She does a lot of things right and she seems to always keep that positive attitude, even when things aren’t going her way, per se. If she can continue to be a selfless individual, she is going to go places on the hardwood. That’s for sure.
