Not being from Kentucky, nor covering hoops down there, this was my first time seeing Lyla play, but she was noticeably good in the game I got to see. She is a strong, athletic, and physical front-liner. She does a nice job of getting out and running the floor, and she does have a little perimeter skill…some touch outside and the ability to put it on the floor. But her strength is her power inside, her ability to own the boards, and her soft finishes with either hand over defenders. Additionally, she can be a bit of a “bully” defensively, and she showed that a couple of times today, stealing rebounds.

Lyla has great size at 6’3″, excellent length. She moves well for her size, can score with her back to the basket, and has the ability to step out and make the three. Lyla is also a really good rebounder and provides a strong interior presence on defense as a rim protector. She averaged 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds during her sophomore season and continues to show steady growth on both ends of the floor. I think Lyla has significant upside and a game that should translate well to the next level. (Photo Above)

Packer is legit! A big rim protector! Defensively she’s always ready to deflect passes coming inside. She is like a semi truck- you can’t stop her momentum. When her back is to the basket, she assesses and knows where to go. And Lyla’s automatic from the line! (Below with ball)

Packer is a difference maker thanks to her elite size at the post position but she’s also been developing more and more offensive game over the last year or so. Lyla averaged 8.8 points per game this past season but will need to contribute more rebounding to really start jumping off the page at coaches. Lyla is certainly a player who can garner multiple offers this summer.

had a double-double performance in a 69-55 win over Meade County Thursday. She displayed phenomenal footwork on the low block, ripped down rebounds, and made her presence felt on the defensive end with some big-time rejections. Lyla finished with 12 points, 10 boards, and 2 blocks. (Featured Image)

jumps to the 7th spot on the list after receiving an offer from the University of Pikeville a couple weeks ago. Lyla looked good at the Kentucky Expo and will be a key player for the Lady Chargers this upcoming season.

Lyla did a little bit of everything at the Expo this weekend. She displayed phenomenal footwork on the low block and score well with her back the basket. She made good passes to open shooters on the perimeter, knocked down mid-range jumpers, and had a few big-time blocks.

The thing you cannot miss about Packer is her ability to Block and Alter shots. At one point I think she blocked 3 in about 30 seconds. She gets such good extension with the length of her arms and body and has great footwork that helps her to navigate the paint and close the distance needed to get a piece of the ball. She is very strong, as well, and uses her physical attributes and feel for the flow of the game to find her way to multiple rebounds. It isn’t just her great size, there is something inside of her that makes her want to block every shot possible and grab every rebound possible. A motor that makes her an asset to have on the court before you even begin to discuss her skills. This is another player I would have put into the “Top Performances of the Day” article, but I had committed before the event to write an article about the Centers and had to have her here.
When you start looking into her skills you might start thinking Packer is more of a Small Forward than a Center. She clearly has spent some time running one of the nearly ubiquitous 5-Out Offenses of the current age. She has some skill dribbling the ball and the ability to take it to the hole when the opportunity presents itself. She can shoot the three if she is open. She has good passing skills that I would like to see her use from the High Post or Low Post a little more often and I imagine that is something I will see during some of her games the next few years.
When you look into her scoring package inside the lane she is currently more of a Power Forward than a Center. Mainly scoring while facing the basket than playing with her back to it. She may not fit into this category as a Center for much longer if she doesn’t further develop her Post Up skills. At least not on Offense. That isn’t a bad thing. There is more than one path for her to go down as a player based on where she is right now. Maybe she will end up being a player that can play all 3 Frontcourt Positions, maybe she will begin to specialize in one of them. There is no wrong answer as long as she is continuing to gain skill and techniques that she can use to be exceptional on the court.
I do not know if she plays the dreaded V-ball game, but I imagine she is a nightmare to face around the net if she does. Hopefully, for the sake of Basketball she is not swayed to the darkside of the gym where they keep the nets, knee pads and 3-colored balls. I feel like I might be betraying the spot just be bringing this up. Read no more about this abomination of nets and kneepads. Think only about Hoops and Backboards and Orange-colored spheres.

Lyla was the tallest prospect at the camp and could have some of the highest potential of them all. Packer didn’t get a ton of touches on offense but was efficient with her scoring when she did get the ball. She rebounded at a high level and made smart passes to teammates, especially when the defense came to double the post. Keep an eye on Lyla for Bullitt East the next 4 years!

So long and very active on both ends of the court. Grabbed rebounds off the rim, made great outlet passes, and stayed strong with the ball. Saw the floor well and made great passes over the defense. Great hands and touch around the basket.
