Thompson was a Class 4A All-State Selection this season for the Redhawks. Makiah scored over 1,000 career points for the Redhawks. She really does a nice job of using her body to fight off defenders on the way to the bucket. Makiah plays the game with some grit and toughness. She likes to have the ball in her hands down the stretch in a game. Thompson seems to be at her best while playing in attack mode.

Makiah averaged 15.7 ppg, 3.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds for the Redhawks (17-10).

Thompson is taking to the AAU circuit this time following a 2022-23 season with Westwood that saw the Redhawks advance all the way to the 4A state championship game against North Augusta. She can make plenty of plays near the rim and good bit of those plays will result in her getting fouled and taking her chances at the free throw line. Thompson is also one who can deliver plenty of defensive plays as well. SC Future 17U scored a 49-26 victory over CP3 Basketball Academy 2024 in one of the final games of Friday evening’s action. Thompson tallied eight points.

Thompson is as TOUGH as they come at times with her play on the floor. Makiah wants to and will score the ball when she wants to. She plays the game with some shake-bake at times but really looks to get to the rack. Thompson connected on a few floaters in the lane today.

Makiah will look to take over the leadership roles next season at Westwood HS since several seniors will be moving on.

Thompson proved to be every bit of a “Ms. Reliable” as any of the Redhawks’ more ballyhooed seniors given she played in all 27 matchups Westwood played in last season. She is another who spends her spring and summer months on the grassroots circuit with SC Future. Thompson stands at 5-foot-4and gives the Redhawks timely offense along with superb ball distribution. She can create extra possessions for her team by making things difficult for opposing ball handlers and making them prone to turnovers. Thompson places plenty of emphasis on limiting miscues herself as an extension of her ball handling attributes.

Thompson managed to see the court in all 27 games the Redhawks played in last season. She has proven herself to be a vocal leader on the floor in addition to someone who leads by example. She stands at 5-foot-4 and gives Westwood timely offense in addition to what she does as a ball distributor. Defensively, she makes things difficult for opposing ball carriers and her ability to get steals will create extra possessions for her team. Thompson also places much emphasis on ball handling and limiting turnovers. She is another that has played her grassroots ball with SC Future throughout the spring and summer months.
