When looking at this year’s roster for 1A Military Magnet, one will notice that four of the 11 players are either eighth or seventh graders. Brown, who was part of last season’s championship-winning Eagles team, is back for her eighth-grade season and finished with eight points as part of a Military Magnet blowout of 3A Keenan. One of the two 2030s on this year’s Eagles team. Brown is more of a pure point guard and this is seen with how her ability to take care of the ball and limit turnovers translate into attacking and finishing strong at the rim.

Not every high school athlete can say that they were a state champion in their seventh-grade season. Brown can say that following Military Magnet reclaiming its place as 1A state champions last season. It was not as if coach Nathaniel Taylor simply had Brown on the bench to take in the sights and sounds. She played in 30 games last season for the Eagles and averaged 7.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals a game. Brown also led the team in 3-point percentage, was second in assists and free throw percentage. After running on the grassroots circuit with Mosch Ball , Brown has all of the tools to display that her 2024-25 was only her getting started.

For much of the last several seasons, Military Magnet has been the team to beat in the 1A ranks. With eighth grade talents such as Brown that display why they can match up against sophomores, the Eagles will remain in the contenders’ chat. How Brown fuses together speed and quickness with ball-handling capabilities will throw even seasoned veteran defenders off balance. Brown also blends together skills of a point guard – such as the ability to organize an offense in a half court set – with those of a two guard – such as accuracy from behind the arc. She averaged 7.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals as a seventh grader for a Military Magnet team that once again was crowned 1A state champions.
