Throughout last season and during AAU play, Melaney consistently showed flashes of her potential, each time revealing new dimensions to her game. She is especially effective on the glass, using her size, length, and physicality to rebound over opponents. Her work on the offensive boards makes her a tough matchup, as she can extend possessions and create high-percentage scoring opportunities. Heading into this season, Melaney projects to be an important piece of Merrillville’s offense, bringing interior presence and versatility that will complement the team’s perimeter play. I feel like Melaney is primed to have a breakout year for the Pirates of Merrillville. She has the potential to be a double-double performer each night. She has extremely long arms, long legs, some bounce, but also broad shoulders and some strength to her frame. Because of her physical tools, she is often able to find herself in the right spot on the floor, whether that’s as an opportunistic scorer or a rebounder/defender. I think she has nice upside.
