About Morgan
Expert Analysis
Grant McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
When she wasn’t playing this weekend, the Flandreau guard/wing was wearing a walking boot while nursing a stress injury in the vicinity of her lower leg/ankle. When she was on the floor for Hoop City , you’d have no idea there was any nagging injury at all. When it came time to compete, Sheppard was – as per usual – one of the most influential players in the gym. The top-ranked prospect in South Dakota’s Class of 2028 practically glides around the floor with a natural ease. At 6-foot-2, she combines length, athleticism, and skill in a way that immediately calls for your attentioin. She rebounds, handles the ball, creates offense, and defends multiple positions without looking rushed. What I appreciate most is her efficiency. Morgan rarely wastes movement and rarely forces the action. Everything feels purposeful. Will Morgan end up at South Dakota State with her sister Claire? We’ll know soon enough.

It only takes a few minutes of watching a player like Morgan on the floor to reach a confident conclusion: She is a Division 1 prospect. Sheppard is a long, smooth, and highly skilled athlete with clear next-level potential and the scholarship offers to show for it. At 17 points and 9 rebounds per game this winter, she produces across the board while playing with poise and efficiency. Her length is a major weapon, allowing her to elevate over defenders with a high, difficult-to-contest release. Morgan moves with ease, showing athleticism and fluidity in transition and in the half court. She rebounds well, defends multiple positions, and plays with a strong basketball IQ. This all-conference, all-state performer is developing into a complete college prospect.

Morgan already has an offer from South Dakota State University and will undoubtedly have more to come. Six-feet tall and pure athleticism there will undoubtedly be more offers to come for this talented young lady. Offensively she has a high release on her shot and can get it off over the defense. Her length and explosiveness to the rim allows her to get to the rim with ease and she does a great job finishing in the paint. A high IQ player on both ends Morgan does a nice job on the boards and is a future lockdown defender for years to come. She can guard any spot on the floor and makes it extremely difficult for even the most talented prospects to get solid looks. Big things to come for this class led by the talented Flier forward!
