With the flurry of high school spring sports out of the way, the top players in South Dakota girls basketball have now turned their attention to AAU basketball with a little more gusto. A good portion of the elite prospect crowd gathered this weekend at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls for the Sanford Sports Hardwood Challenge where we spent the better part of three days scrutinizing a wide cross section of talent. Here are five standout performers we liked at the Pentagon.

I have watched Reuvers a couple of times over the past few weeks and every time I am more impressed by her outsized impact on the game. When Taylor touches the ball, good things happen. The Vermillion standout is a whirlwind of activity, constantly probing, creating, and forcing defenders into uncomfortable decisions. What jumps out first is the speed. Taylor changes ends of the floor in a flash and has the burst to turn small openings into layups. What keeps you watching is everything else. She sees plays before they develop, delivers passes with precision, and has a sweet floater – one of the most potent weapons a smaller guard can have in her arsenal. Add in her anticipation defensively, relentless competitiveness, and knack for making winning plays, and it's easy to understand why she holds Division 1 opportunities.

Some players gradually reveal themselves. Morgan is not one of those players. You walk into the gym, glance toward the court, and she immediately jumps out from everyone else in the contest. The incoming freshman from Mitchell has a commanding presence that comes from a rare combination of size, mobility, and skill. At 6-foot-1, she already possesses the frame college coaches covet, yet she moves with the fluidity of a guard. What impresses me most is her versatility and the potential that offers at the collegiate level. One possession she was stretching the floor with her shooting, the next she was attacking off the bounce or using her length to disrupt defensively. There is a creativity to her game that makes CeCe fun to watch. Morgan looks increasingly like the type of modern, positionless player who can impact a game from virtually anywhere on the floor. She has already received D1 offers.

When she wasn't playing this weekend, the Flandreau guard/wing was wearing a walking boot while nursing a stress injury in the vicinity of her lower leg/ankle. When she was on the floor for [program_tooltip program_id='1819826' first='Hoop' last='City'], you'd have no idea there was any nagging injury at all. When it came time to compete, Sheppard was – as per usual – one of the most influential players in the gym. The top-ranked prospect in South Dakota's Class of 2028 practically glides around the floor with a natural ease. At 6-foot-2, she combines length, athleticism, and skill in a way that immediately calls for your attentioin. She rebounds, handles the ball, creates offense, and defends multiple positions without looking rushed. What I appreciate most is her efficiency. Morgan rarely wastes movement and rarely forces the action. Everything feels purposeful. Will Morgan end up at South Dakota State with her sister Claire? We'll know soon enough.

Jaton is one of those players who seems to influence every part of the game whether the ball is in her hands or not. The West Central guard, who holds the #4 position in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2028 rankings for South Dakota, combines athleticism, toughness, and basketball instincts into a remarkably complete package. What stood out to me at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls was the pace she plays with. Kacey gets downhill quickly, attacks gaps decisively, and consistently puts pressure on defenses. She's strong enough to absorb contact, skilled enough to make shots from deep, and smart enough to recognize the right play when it presents itself. I also love the edge she brings. There's a competitive spark that fuels everything Jaton does. Add in her rebounding, passing, defensive versatility, and leadership qualities, and it's easy to see why she's become one of the state's most respected prospects.

Scott may not have enjoyed her best shooting day when I watched on Saturday, but it hardly mattered. The Lyman guard impacts the game in many other ways and can be relied up to conjure up a big play when her team needs it the most. She plays with a brisk, attacking style that forces opponents to react from the opening tip. As a lefty with length, bounce, and terrific body control, Jordyn creates challenges defenders aren't often accustomed to. Scott has excellent court vision. Her eyes are constantly scanning, searching for teammates, cutters, and openings before they fully materialize. She delivers sharp passes, pushes tempo, and seems comfortable making plays at full speed. The jumper will always be part of the conversation because it's fundamentally sound, but her complete floor game is what makes Jordyn special. Scott is a dynamic talent with high upside.
