She executes, isn’t flustered, knows how to get to the basket, and she certainly knows how to draw the foul! She was 80% from the line, making 8-10, and finished with 13 points, along with 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

Nico showed three range off the catch and the ability to drive the court after grabbing the rebound. She had some nice passing showing good vision finding teammates cutting to the basket.

Nico has a very high IQ for the game and is a smooth floor general. She keeps improving her perimeter skills, especially the three-point shot, and does a fantastic job on the spin move to the rim. She keeps the offense going and always is moving the ball. She can defect passes to give her team scoring opportunities because she is a tenacious defender with active hands. She’s quick at reacting to the next pass and is a pest on the defensive end.

The next 3 kids all play together at Fairmont High School, and all 3 have made such a big impact for a team who competed in the very challenging GWOC with their youth. Nico is a smooth floor general who controls the game well. She does a great job with the spin move to the rim and continues to work on her perimeter game including the three-point shot. She is an aggressive defender with active hands and can defect passes leading to scoring chances for her team.

What a career-opening game for a point guard that Fairmont hasn’t has since the days of Chelsea Welch. Nico put the area on notice with a near triple-double in her first high school game. The flashy freshman scored 12 points while dishing out 8 assists with six steals. She is a player who will quickly turn heads with her mature play for a freshman.

I stopped into practice last week while I was at the school covering regional volleyball and got to see a glimpse of Cornett and was immediately impressed with her poise and balance for a freshman. You could see confidence on her face and will be a key component in their offense at Fairmont. She can handle the ball and can take command of a game for her age. Really excited to see how she handles the fast-paced GWOC style. I would say she will be just fine.
