Hoops aficionados across the Palmetto State are likely familiar with the name PJ Benson – the one was integral in establishing Cross Schools as one of the premier programs in the SCISA ranks. Benson recently announced that she will be bringing her many basketball talents to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. Benson is also a product of the H2 Basketball program. Her most recent complete season with the Stingrays was the 2023-24 campaign where she averaged 11.1 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.2 rebounds per matchup. This included tallying 17 points and earning All-Tournament honors following a 47-43 win in the 1A championship game against Curtis Baptist.

Benson’s Cross Schools team tipped things off on Friday morning at Lexington with a matchup against 3A Marlboro County. The Stingrays were slow out of the gate but eventually looked like their defending SCISA 1A champion selves as the team scored a 49-24 win. Benson tallied 12 points. She displayed the pinpoint accuracy she had from behind the perimeter as she drained a quartet of triples. She had all four successful 3-point attempts Cross Schools had for the game. Offensively, she plays the one effectively as she manages to organize an offense in a halfcourt set and she can cause deflections as a stout defender.
