Expert Analysis
Brandon Bradley | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
The guard depth in the Class of 2029 is strong, and Rachel is good proof of that. She averaged 18 points per game, plus she shot 45% from the field and knocked down 42 3-pointers this Winter. She’s fairly strong for her age/size, she’s a solid all-around athlete, and she is a high IQ ballplayer who can see things at times before they happen. She is obviously a capable scorer, but she can also slide over and play a true point guard position, whether that means creating offense for others off the bounce or just initiating the offense.

Rachel popped up throughout the Fall showcase season and really stood out at times with her scrappy play. She is an aggressive guard who isn’t afraid of taking on anyone. She has nice length, a wiry strength, and she plays with skillful versatility. She can play on the ball as a point guard or attack the basket and knock down open jump-shots as a shooter score. To begin her high school career, she is averaging 16.7 points and 2.3 steals per game, while shooting a solid 46% from the field and 35% (22-62) from 3-point range. I’ll be anxious to watch her in grassroots play this Spring & Summer.

Playing for Team 3 at the Showcase, Rachel exemplified tenacious defensive by remaining aggressive on her opponents. By sticking close to the offender, Rachel put immense pressure on players, often leading to clutch turnovers for her team. Her effort on the court shifts the momentum of her teammates, allowing for collaborative, team-effort plays. Additionally, Rachel stayed consistent with boxing-out and reaching for rebounds each time a shot was missed. If she was not in line of drive for the ball, Rachel made sure to hustle to steal the rebound.

had an impressive showcase, putting her full skill set on display throughout the day. She excels at attacking the rim, making smart decisions whether that’s finishing through contact or finding an open teammate for a clean three. A quick guard with excellent hands, Jones can create turnovers and disrupt opponents on defense. Combined with her court vision, she consistently makes the right reads on both ends of the floor, making her a highly effective and versatile player. As one of the rising guards in Southern Indiana, Jones is poised to make a big impact during her freshman year and will be a player to watch in the seasons ahead.

Rachel played with high energy and effort for Team 3 at the Freshman Showcase. She froze her defender with a shot fake and accelerated with a quick dribble for the layup. Rachel scored an offensive rebound putback, and chased down multiple offensive boards. She finished a tough left-handed layup and one off two feet and sprinted up the court for a catch and finish layup off two. Rachel anticipated a pass to grab a steal, reached in to deflect the ball, and took it the other way for a fast break bucket. Rachel had active hands on defense and used a sweet high pick-up move to cause a foul on a drive. She’s a two-way guard who makes a difference on the court.
