Rayven is a powerful forward who her opponent had no answers for at the Swartz Creek Showcase on Saturday. She was effective at catching the ball in the high post, facing up, and attacking downhill. Rayven froze her defender with a shot fake and then drove by to score off two feet. She scored a baseline floater, knocked down a corner jumper, converted layups, stole the ball on defense, dished assists to teammates, and battled for offensive rebounds. Rayven gave her team an advantage inside earning a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Her efforts resulted in a win and All-Showcase First Team Honors.

We’ll continue the Storm theme. It’s not about numbers or even skill sets with McQueen last weekend. Those are all there and at an elite level, but it was the things that may not show up on the stat sheet that wowed me. McQueen showed a ton of toughness and a willingness to win hustle points. She was pulled off the floor by her teammates on multiple occasions because went that extra inch to make a play. McQueen has the strength to match that toughness as well.

McQueen is a must see player in 2024. She’s flipped a switch in her game and is turning a lot of heads with her play this high school season. McQueen has been an absolute monster on the glass and a consistent offensive threat.

Ravyn is a kid that is going to be a problem in years to come. She has the height, the strength, and the athleticism to be an elite two way player. She is stuck behind a couple of really good players, but she is going to go to be really good when her number is called. For now, she is just a high energy defender that rebounds and disrupts. Expect to see her on the first team next year.

I had a chance to see Rayven play last year, and you can tell she is way more comfortable in her sophomore campaign. She is an incredibly strong player that powers through defenders, but she has the athleticism to get by people as well. She was very active in passing lanes and on the boards and showed improvements in the shooting mechanics.
