Riley showed a lot of next-level tendencies, fantastic guard with very solid handles and the ability to explode downhill. Outstanding perimeter shooter, anticipates the game well. Her basketball IQ is very good and she does the little things that helps her team be successful. Love her leadership!  

As I began to write this evaluation, I had no idea Riley was ranked so high in Kentucky. All I know is that she probably played the hardest of anyone I saw this weekend, and she did so with a ton of athleticism. She played mostly off the ball, so she was able to run free. She would stay wide running the floor, then sharply cut to the rim and get easy baskets. She also rebounded her position extremely well, she broke down defenders, and she made open rhythm jumpers consistently. Oh yeah, and like her teammate (above), she too was a problem for opponents at her defensive end of the floor.

Riley made a huge statement to start the weekend, dropping 34 points in a win over Kentucky Premier E40 and continuing that level of play throughout. Riley is the complete package at the guard position, showing confidence, control, and a deep offensive skill set. She excelled in transition, pushing the tempo and finishing through contact, while also scoring efficiently from all three levels. Riley’s feel for the game and decision making stood out, as she consistently made the right reads and stayed composed under pressure. Already holding Division I offers, she plays with a maturity that separates her.

Riley Gilvin Riley Gilvin 5'7" | CG Sacred Heart | 2028 State KY has climbed into the top five of Kentucky’s Class of 2028 rankings. She’s been a steady contributor for the Sacred Heart Valkyries this season, averaging 9.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Playing on such a talented roster naturally limits some opportunities, but she is the type of player who knows how make her presence felt in a variety of ways and she impacts winning. Riley also picked up her first Division I offer from Eastern Kentucky University before the season, making her the fifth prospect in Kentucky’s Class of 2028 to hold a D1 offer.

Riley Gilvin Riley Gilvin 5'7" | CG Sacred Heart | 2028 State KY announced on Instagram Thursday that she has received her first Division I offer from Eastern Kentucky University after a conversation with Head Coach Greg Todd. The talented guard from Sacred Heart is poised for a strong sophomore season.

Riley has phenomenal defensive instincts and is always looking to make a play. She had a big-time block and a steal. She also pulled down an offensive rebound, and got downhill, converting multiple strong drives and finishes at the rim.

Sacred Heart has been on a ridiculous tear in the first part of this decade but they’re about to see what life without Zakiyah Johnson looks like. Gilvin looks ready to step up in a big way. Riley is a slashing guard who can finish or set up teammates to knock down shots. A disruptor on the defensive end, Riley is ready for her opportunity this season.

Riley played meaningful minutes for reigning state champions Sacred Heart as a freshman, appearing in 35 games and averaging 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds. She has a great feel for the game and finds ways to make her presence felt on both ends of the floor. Riley is fundamental, plays the right way, never forces the issue, and excels in the transition game. She also competes on the glass and has a nice shooting touch from the outside. Riley could be the next star at Sacred Heart and she’s bound to have a big summer season as she starts ramping up for a bigger role for the Valkyries. Gilvin is a very efficient scorer who can score at every level. She plays hard and knows how to create her own shot or get a teammate an open look. Don’t be surprised if she starts working her way up the big board of colleges this spring and summer.
