About Sally

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a combo guard: Shooter, intense defense, shot blkr, push pace in transition, good passer, good rebounder. God made me athletic so I can slash to the rim, pull up for mid range, or shoot the long 3. Defensive intensity leads to steals and fast break opportunities. I work hard to be a complete player impacting the game whether I'm scoring, facilitating, or disrupting the other team's offense.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I love matching up against top talent. Vocal & physical leader; my teammates count on my intensity every practice & game – never loafing, never quitting, finishing first in drills & sprints. I'm the same person off the court, maintaining same intensity w/ academics, piano, art, helping others, & everything I do. Leaders are consistent, so I am the person always putting in the most, extra work.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have a 4.29 GPA and am constantly on the honor roll. I received a Christian Character award at my school (Gaston Christian). I'm in Beta Club, Bible Club, I travel to Nicaragua to do humanitarian work with an organization called Global Cross. I have received some perfect attendance awards, and other minor, middle school academic awards. I received a school kindness/humanitarian award.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Traveling to Nicaragua twice to work a feeding kitchen and help build homes for the needy instilled in me deep gratitude and commitment to serving others. I'm a leader on my teams, not for the spotlight, but because teammates know I will always be intense, encourage them after mistakes, and lead with a positive attitude. My empathy, communication and teamwork are helpful on and off the court.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Challenge: an unwanted year in a motorhome with my family due to my father’s work. Crammed into close quarters with awful online school, we left behind friends and structure, which caused uncertainty, stress and anxiety. Ironically, it became a season of growth; I developed critical coping skills that I needed later for the COVID-19 pandemic. I learned: challenges become opportunities!

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm working hard so I can reach high, looking for schools with a strong program and academic reputation where I can compete at the highest level while preparing for a future career. I want to be part of a program that genuinely cares about the players and pushes and develops them to reach their full potential on and off the court.

Sally Risk Sally Risk Sally Risk 5'9" | CG/SG Gaston Christian | 2028 State NC is a sharp shooter from deep, and she can get the shot up quicker than her defender can recover getting their hands up.  She does a nice job sealing off areas creating the open space moving without the ball, so she can easily get the pass and go to work even making cuts to the basket to score.  She flies all over the court on defense showing off her quick close outs blocking shots and deflecting passes.

Solid all-around game from shooting, passing, handling the ball and defending. Sally is one of the team’s best three-point shooters which is critical since she plays with dominating interior players. Once the ball goes inside the post players are swarmed with double and triple teams which then allows the inside players to pass back out for Sally to shoot beyond the arc. If she gets her feet set, she has a nice stroke and is currently shooting over 30 percent from three-point line.
