Smith shocked a lot of coaches with her already high school frame but then came her skill set that had most coaches circling her name and looking for her guardian.

Smith had good energy on both ends of the court and displayed leadership like qualities as she was talkative on defense by calling out screens and weak side needed help.

Her ball handling was most impressive for her size, as she was able to secure the defensive rebound then lead the break through traffic. In the half court setting, Salima then showed off her soft mid range jumper followed by her command of the paint with a package of counter moves.

Salima is listed as a shooting guard but played more like a forward in this showcase. She was one of the taller players in a group heavily made up of players under 5’5”, and she took advantage of her size. She shot the ball well from the mid-range and was a strong finisher around the basket. On drives and in the post, she used her size and strength to displace smaller defenders and create good scoring opportunities.

Salima is strong with the ball in her hands and does a good job cradling it like a running back when attacking the basket, making it difficult for defenders to strip her. She can back down defenders and has good footwork when scoring in the post. Salima also has a nice spin move that she can turn into a fadeaway jumper around the paint.

An explosive athlete with advanced basketball instincts, Smith controlled games when needed. She attacked the basket with confidence and finished efficiently. Meanwhile, her scoring drew extra defenders into the lane. As a result, she consistently created open looks for teammates with smart, timely passes.

Defensively, Smith embraced the physical work. She battled for rebounds and erased second-chance opportunities. Additionally, she quickly ignited the offense after securing possessions. Although she has yet to play a high school game, her ceiling is impressive. With continued development, expect college coaches to know her name.

Arguably one of the best young players in the state only in the 7th grade. Already at 5’9 close to 5’10 as a guard that has a mature game. Has the frame that can possibly develop into a nationally high level player!

Salima was playing up a couple of grades but still established herself as one of the best players on the court. Her shooting was solid and she had a nice midrange touch. She was especially impressive with her ball handling and ability to attack the rim. She had some good combination moves and her spin move was effective in getting her to the basket. She showed the the ability to finish after contact.

Salima finished some difficult shots from a wide angle. She was tough on the defensive end with back to back steals and finishes. She had a nice run where she just made play after the play and the only way to slow her down was to foul and send her to the line.

A rising 7th grader and this kid has all the tools to be a division 1 player! Great size already at 5’8 and she has all the guard skills that were needed to compete against the older players!
