, the prolific sharpshooter for Plainview High School’s girls basketball program, officially etched her name into the record books by breaking the career three-pointers made record, becoming the new standard not only in Alabama, but nationally.
In a decisive win over DAR, Hulgan buried her 589th career three-pointer, surpassing the previous record of 588, a mark that had stood as both a state and national benchmark. Fittingly, the milestone came in trademark fashion — confident rhythm, deep range, and no hesitation.
A Record Built Over Years, Not Moments
Hulgan needed six made threes entering the night, and she delivered — calmly, efficiently, and under the weight of history. Each shot represented years of work, repetition, and trust in her range. By the final buzzer, the record was hers. As if that milestone wasn’t enough, the night carried added significance: Hulgan also crossed the 3,000-career-points threshold, placing her among the most accomplished scorers ever to wear a Plainview uniform.
More Than a Shooter
While the record highlights her elite perimeter shooting, Hulgan’s impact goes far beyond the arc. Her ability to stretch defenses, control tempo, and lead vocally has defined Plainview’s success throughout her career. Defenses sell out to stop her shooting — and she still delivers.
Her résumé now reads:
- National leader in career three-pointers made
- 3,000+ career points
- Program-defining scorer and leader
- One of the most dangerous long-range threats in high school basketball history

Sawyer Kate brought a unique flair to her three-point shooting. There was an almost effortless quality to her game, a natural rhythm that made each shot look deceptively easy. She moved with a certain grace, finding her spot behind the arc with a smooth fluidity. Her shot had a beautiful arc, the ball seeming to hang in the air for just a moment before dropping cleanly through the net. There was often a subtle smile or a quick glance at a teammate after a successful shot, a quiet confidence that radiated outwards. It wasn’t just about making the basket; it was about the flow of the game, the connection with her teammates, and the sheer joy of hitting that perfect shot. Sawyer Kate’s threes at the Rumble were a display of skill honed with a touch of artistry, each one contributing to the team’s momentum with a quiet but undeniable impact.

An SGB team has an SKH to thank in large part for why Roll Tide Rumble was such a successful weekend for the Huntsville-based grassroots program. SGB 17U Barton finished 4-0 over the weekend. A huge reason why that record went unblemished was because of her team’s 55-54 win it earned over Team Elite Hubbard 17U 3SSB on Sunday. Every point mattered – including the eight that were placed on the scoreboard by Hulgan. She also had a stellar performance against OMG Academy 17U that also resulted in a victory. In that contest, one aspect of her game was especially apparent – her accuracy from 3-point range.

Sawyer Kate, aka SK, is a player I expect to have a great offseason and continuing to sharper her already elite 3 point shooting. I’m sure she will get many shots up in a variety of ways and look to have her shot on full display during any travel ball tournaments.
SK will have plenty eyes on her as she has scored over 2000 points for her career and over 500 made 3 pointers. She’s number 3 all time in the AHSAA 3 point career list. She’s a big time player and only the class of 2027! She’s a name you should start to hear more often.
