Few players can create as well as Zehner. As a ball handler, she can beat her defender off the dribble and get to her spots whenever she wants, and she never lacks confidence. The first time I saw her play, which may have been her first high school game, she airballed a free throw, but it never affected her. She’s a mentally tough kid who will be able to handle any amount of adversity she may face at the next level.

The now two-time state champion in Wisconsin is playing her final year of grassroots basketball south of the border for one of the most reputable programs in the Midwest. We have seen a few players head down to play for Mac Irvin, succeed, and earn opportunities to play at a high level in college. Zehner is a hard-nosed kid who works hard and is a creative player with the ball in her hands. Once she finds her footing with a new group of girls, she could thrive this grassroots season.

Zehner is a talented ball handler who can beat her initial defender off the dribble and make plays attacking the basket. The Arrowhead guard can score the ball at all three levels, make challenging shots, defend on the perimeter, and play off other talented players. There is still room for her to grow for sure, but she will never lack confidence or the competitive edge she brings whenever she steps on the floor. Zehner is currently uncommitted, but will surely garner D1 attention this summer with Mac Irvin.

A few things have changed since Arrowhead lifted the gold ball last March. Two starters graduated, and one is likely out until the AAU season with a knee injury. There was already going to be significant turnover in their rotation, but it’s even more than expected. If I were to guess, Zehner was bound for a prominent role for the Warhawks, but now she’s even more necessary for their rotation. Her first step and vision will relieve pressure from the other talented guards in the Warhwaks’ building, and Zehner may make some significant plays down the stretch.
