About Sydney

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style as very energetic and controlled. I use my defense to create opportunities for myself of my team. I have a great jump shot and I also and strong and creative when finishing around the rim. I also pride myself on my passing and creating opportunities for my teammates.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a very upbeat personality and always work hard to reach my personal and team goals. I am a natural leader and build relationships with all of my teammates. I am very hardworking and love to be challenged.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am heavily involved in Orchestra as a double bassist. I am first chair of the highest orchestra at Wharton and I made the 2024 All County. I am also a Community Outreach officer of the Women in Sports club.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a natural leader and work well with my team. I understand the importance of teamwork and use those skills in many aspects of my life. I have a part time job that has taught me customer service and social skills.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My most significant challenge I face is balancing all of my responsibilities and hobbies. I try to be involved in everything possible so my biggest challenge is balancing my life.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college with a great team culture. I have found that I am more likely to succeed when I am surrounded by a great environment and people who are pushing me to be my best. I want to be challenged and forced to get outside of my comfort zone.

Sydney continues to raise her game each season and has become one of Wharton’s most reliable two-way players that is a nightly double-double threat. At nearly six feet tall, she combines power and versatility as the team’s leading rebounder last season with 7.1 boards per game while adding 9.4 points and 2.1 steals. Her strong frame allows her to battle inside yet she moves well enough to defend multiple positions and finish through contact. With multiple Division III offers and a JUCO offer already on the table, Sydney’s steady growth and impact on both ends make her a key piece for Wharton this year.

Syd has a college-ready frame with good size and strength. She finished with power around the basket and had a high release on her shot. I was impressed with her use of the glass on her shot and her ability to rip down boards. Her effort was fantastic and she kept many plays alive and stuck with it through every whistle.

Hurst will be in the building at the upcoming Expo. She combines a smooth shooting stroke with the length to score over defenders and finish through contact, while her defensive versatility allows her to guard in the paint and cover out on the perimeter. With her ability to impact both ends of the floor, Hurst brings versatility and she could likely adapt into any playing system.
