Expert Analysis
Brazley Barnes | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Another well known name, playing in the Chicago Public League Championship against defending state champs Kenwood is never easy. While her size, power, and versatility were on display, I was more impressed with how she helped her younger guards through a tough game, pumping them up and providing encouragement even when the score did not warrant it. She is obviously moving on and will be successful in college next year, but her leadership will be missed. She leaves behind a standard for how to compete and how to carry a program.

This future Northwestern Wildcat has a terrific motor- and when you combine that with her strong frame that’s built for rebounding over 10+ a game, and scoring aggressively with springs in her feet- good luck trying to stop this young lady! She has a high ceiling! (Below with ball)

Walton usually finds herself in conversations about standout players in the state, and this year, with BCP reloading, she could lead her team to a deep playoff run, which will definitely give her the nod of being a nominee for these awards, on top of being a highly scouted prospect.

Capping off her final AAU season, Walton still remains one of the top prospects in the state, as well as the country. She’s a problem on the boards, and behind the arc, she’s a player that can’t be left open. Even with her being committed, shes still showing a competitive nature that the Northwestern staff will love.

Xyanna kind of played in stages Saturday morning when I saw her. She began the game using her athleticism, strength, and physicality by driving the ball and scoring it at the rim. In the middle portion, she was effective as a defender and hit the boards hard. Then down the stretch, she showed the perimeter touch and created more off the bounce for teammates like a true wing facilitator. She has a long, strong, and athletic frame, she is a nice athlete in all directions, and she plays with a nonstop, competitive motor. She is committed to Northwestern University.

I was so impressed with Walton, and how her effort on the boards gave her team second chance opportunities! She’s tough to keep off the glass! She has no problem going coast to coast, knocks down buckets from outside, and takes care of business in the paint! (Featured Photo)

Butler will be able to compete with the best of them this season, and Walton will be a big reason for that. From the arc to the paint, Walton can get it done. She’ll draw multiple double-teams this year and has the height and length to make plays for teammates.

A lights-out shooter from beyond the arc, she is just as reliable when she drives into the paint. With a solid handle and tremendous length, she is a threat in the open court or when she’s driving downhill. Xyanna plays with poise but shows emotion at times, which is exactly what college coaches love, aggressive but level headed. Her full skill set will be on display when she gets back on the court with her Butler program this month.

Xyanna being back on the court gives the Lynx another weapon to fight their way to state.. and she’s no regular weapon. Walton has one of the deepest skillsets in her class, and can play multiple positions due to her versatility. In the open court or half.. Walton will bring problems for Marian.

With her AAU season cut short due to injury, Walton still remains in the top 5 for players in this class. The length, the motor and the aggression on both sides of the floor can’t be missed. She has a natural feel for the game and doesn’t take off on possessions. She’s a sniper from outside, her athleticism is off the charts.. but her rebounding is key to the success for the teams she plays on.
