Leamon displayed from start to finish exactly the talent that will translate well to her college career at Morgan State. She would add 17 points to South Carolina’s total. Versatility is at the heart of what Leamon gets accomplished. What makes her so difficult to guard against is her ability to score points either from behind the 3-point line or in the interior. At one moment, Leamon is on the perimeter. At the next, she is playing with her back to the basket in the paint. She led 5A Division 1 Mauldin with 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest and got the Mavericks to the Upper State championship game. She also won state with Mauldin in 2022-23.

Sunday’s contest between Mauldin and Lexington was not only for the Christmas Classic’s Blue Bracket championship – it served as a possible 5A Division 1 Upper State tournament preview. The 21 points placed on the scoreboard by Leamon not only won the Blue Bracket for the Mavericks – it handed the host Wildcats their first loss of the season. There is a reason as to why Leamon was on the radar of Morgan State – where she will play her collegiate ball following this season. Her versatility is part of it as she can play in iso situations indicative of many guards and with her back to the basket in the paint – indicative of many forwards and bigs. Rebounding is another strong area of her game and she has displayed throughout her career that she is at her best in big moments. Leamon has played at the varsity level since she was an eighth grader.

Teamwise, Leamon’s Mauldin assembling would sooner forget how its Green Bracket championship contest with Spring Valley went given it was the first loss for the Mavericks since a Dec. 10 defeat at 4A Westside. Leamon still had herself a great game for Mauldin with a 23-point performance. The 23 for Leamon included 16 that were scored in the first half of play. An accurate 3-point shot is a central point of her offensive game but can throw defenses off balance with her rim attacking abilities. Connecting on floaters, getting to the line and all-around veteran instincts also make Leamon is task to game plan against.

Leamon was active all day long with her play. Zara attacked the basket with drives to the rim. The slashing Leamon plays best while in the transition game and getting out and scoring the rock. Zara finished through contact and constantly played active on both ends of the court. She helped the Lady Mavericks win a Class 5A State Championship a season ago.

Leamon certainly plays mature for her age while on the floor. Zara has a very good overall skill set to play all over the floor at times. She was able to finish some runs to the basket or simply knockdown perimeter jumpers.
She was great in the passing lanes picking up some steals that led to easy looks heading the other direction.
