Expert Analysis
Sam Duren | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
In this contest, the quick freshman guard was quieter as a scorer. But still came alive with clutch scores around the rim at the end of regulation and overtime. Importantly, she doesn’t let scoring impact her ability to change games. Helped be the straw to stir the drink for the offense early in the contest. Pushed the tempo to create transition looks, got into the paint for drives and kicks, leading to assists and hockey assists. Similar aggressive mindset on defense, has quick hands to go along with her quick feet. Making her a menace when playing on the ball defense, and hustling back in transition to save points.

Based on high school accomplishments, Johnson is likely too low even at 7. There were few guards better in Oklahoma over the last month, as her emergence was a key part in the Lady Titans winning Class 5A. Is very comfortable as a set up point guard and defensive minded pest. Is quick and tough when pressuring on the ball.
Importantly down the stretch, she stepped up as a scorer. Looked for her shot more, while staying efficient. With a Gold Ball on her resume, a pivotal spring and summer of national play with a well regarded Texas program is the next step in her developmental.

An all action freshman, Johnson applied pressure on both ends of the court. She got to it on the offensive end, scoring from all over. Getting defenders in space, and either putting them on skates to create space for pull ups. Or slash all the way to the basket. Add in some good determination and tenacity on the defensive end to make it a complete performance. Appears to be hitting her stride at the perfect time for Carl Albert.

The freshman who has earned a starting spot in Carl Albert’s upperclassman heavy lineup. She’s quick with good handles. Provided early scoring as part of the Titan’s strong start. Including putting an older defending into a spin cycle, then smoothly stopping and lofting a floater over a helpside defender. She’s a well drilled guard, with a great foundation of handles, passing and awareness. Carl Albert possibly could use a a tad bit scoring punch from her, as she missed a couple good looks in the second half. With most teams focused on Brown and Plunkett, there is an opening for Johnson to make waves during the playoffs.

Carl Albert is about to host their own tournament next week, this comes after an appearance at the Tournament of Champions to end 2025. The freshman has earned a starting spot for a team with 5A title aspirations. She’s quick and disruptive on the ball as a defender. With a good feel on offense for a youngster. Can pass out of shots for better looks for her teammates. While also knocking down her own jumpers, and find her way to the charity stripe. Looks like a very promising solid, all around guard.

A common theme on this list and for any young players looking for early playing time is to bring it on defense. From watching Johnson at an early scrimmage, she’s checking that box. A quick and “in your face” guard, she looks to have fit in perfectly with a Lady Titans team that is no stranger to State Tournament appearances. Her quickness also makes dangerous as a driver, where she’s equally likely to score herself or make the right passes to teammates.

If you are looking for a true point guard that marks all the boxes, then you need to check out Zoie Johnson. The point guard showed great poise with ball in hand while eyes were reading the floor looking to make the next play. . Impressive was the ability to create space off the dribble. A tough match up on the drives as she can blow bye you for a layup or stop on a dime knocking down that elbow jumper. The outside jumper makes her a scoring guard at all 3 levels. (3-pointer, Driver, and pull up jumper) As a true point guard does she is looking for the set up first as she dropped passes to the backside block for easy scores.
A calm cool customer that plays with a smile on her face. Do not mistake that kindness as when it comes down to defense this guard is all business. The consistent play on both ends puts among the Top 2029 players. A great addition for the Lady Titans.

A old school classic Point Guard. Scores, steals, rebounds, and assist, doing whatever it takes for the team to get the W. Steady handles with the ball using a quick through the legs and a pocket dribble to attack the defender shoulders. The type of player that is reading the second level defense looking for the layup, drop or kick to the open player. The outside shot was on point but really liked the mid-range jumper she brings off the dribble.
Lock down defender on defense that makes it tough to blow by with the dribble. Aggressive off the ball defense leading to steals for points off turnovers. Excellent defensive rebounder that needs no outlet to start a fastbreak off misses.
