Hartland’s Don Palmer (Class A), Jackson Northwest’s Ryan Carroll (Class B), Jason Bradford of Maple City Glen Lake (Class C) and Brandi Hainault of Chassell (Class D) were the coaches of the year in each individual class.
Palmer led the Eagles to the Class A quarterfinals, and Bradford took the Lakers to the Class C semifinals, while Carroll’s Mounties and Hainault’s Panthers finished runner-up in B and D, respectively.
Regional coach of the year honors (by vote of the BCAM members) went to:
Region 1 — Monique Brown, Detroit Edison
Region 2 — Wayne Gigante, Royal Oak Shrine
Region 3 — Jamie Salenbien, Adrian Lenawee Christian
Region 4 — Carroll, Jackson Northwest
Region 5 — Stephen Kulczyk, Schoolcraft
Region 6 — Scott Carlson, Kent City
Region 7 — Mike Glass, Caledonia
Region 8 — Steve Eklund, Pewamo-Westphalia
Region 9 — Palmer, Hartland
Region 10 — Gary Bennett, Grosse Pointe North
Region 11 — DeLong, Heritage
Region 12 — Jay Green, Kingston
Region 13 — JP Katona, Manton
Region 14 — Matt Schelich, Kingsley
Region 15 — Hainault, Chassell

Hartman headed to Team USA trials
Okemos rising senior Laya Hartman has been chosen to compete in the qualifying tryouts for the USA Basketball Under-17 team at the end of May.
The competition will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., on May 24-28.
Hartman, who suits up for the
Michigan Mystics
Dream Team in the summer, led Okemos in scoring as a junior, averaging 16.8 points per game, earning honorable mention all-state honors from The Associated Press. She recently gave her verbal commitment to Northwestern.
Michigan already has one potential holdover from the USA Basketball Under-16 team in Detroit Edison’s Rickea Jackson.
