SubscribeThroughout the next week we will take a look back at the conferences in southern Illinois and the results of the 2017-2018 season. We will look at the standings and the All Conference/Top players that will return for the 2018-2019 season. we will share a little insight and then later on in the summer/fall we will get more in depth by team in a full preview of next season.
The next conference to look at is the South Seven Conference. The standings for last year were:
1. Carbondale 9-1
2. Belleville Althoff 7-3
3. Cahokia 6-4
4. Centralia 4-6
5. Marion 3-7
6. Mt Vernon 1-9
Carbondale and Belleville Althoff have been taking turns at the top of this conference over the past few years. Carbondale with the help of a strong senior class had an excellent season advancing to the Regional final game where they lost to a very good Salem team. The following are the top layers returning in the conference:
- Tiffani Siekmann Senior guard Althoff
- Gabby Siekmann Senior guard Althoff
- Katie Wemhoener Junior forward Althoff
- Makayla Brownlee Junior forward Cahokia
- Michaela Jeffries Senior forward Cahokia
- Dayvianna Jennings Junior forward Cahokia
- Allie Fults Junior forward Centralia
- Akira Custer Junior forward Carbondale
- Faith Halliday Sophomore guard Carbondale
- Lauryn Kadela Senior forward Marion
- Annibelle Harrison Junior guard Mt Vernon
- Lazhauria Williams Junior forward Mt Vernon
With Carbondale losing their top players and Althoff and Cahokia returning most of their production from last year it looks like they both could take a big step forward in the South Seven for the 2018-2019 season. Cahokia has some very active and athletic front court players that will be tough to handle while Althoff returns the Siekmann twins to handle the back court. For Althoff their young centers may be the key to them having a big season. We will get more into depth with each team and make some predictions for the upcoming season later in the summer/early fall.
