Continuing my breakdown of the 2019 class position by position, this second installment will focus on the ladies often referred to as combo guards, scoring guards, shooting guards, off-guards, wing guards, big guards, etc. I like to refer to them simply as 2-guards. Below are some brief insights into each of the Top-10 kids at this position in Indiana’s 2019 class.

Rikki Harris, 2019, 5-10 G, North Central H.S. (Indianapolis)

Rikki is a dynamic guard, an explosive scorer, and someone who is just an all-out nightmare for opposing coaches to figure out how to defend. She is long, athletic, fluid, and smooth. She handles it and passes it well enough to play point guard, but she is just wired to score the ball. She can also make plays defensively with her length. She has committed to Ohio State, and if she can put together a complete, healthy season, look for her to be a top Miss Basketball candidate.

Maddie Nolan, 2019, 5-8 G, Zionsville Community H.S.

Maddie is a wiry strong, tough-nosed, and versatile combo guard. Ultimately, she is just a run-through-walls competitor who is extremely feisty. She can handle, shoot, and finish inside, and it’s easy to see why several schools fell in love with her before she finally committed to Miami of Ohio. She too was putting together a nice Miss Basketball résumé, but she unfortunately tore her ACL in early July, and she will miss most / all of the 2018-2019 season.

Cameron Tabor, 2019, 5-9 G, New Castle H.S.
[caption id="attachment_11186" align="alignright" width="180"] Cameron Tabor of New Castle

In a way, Cameron was sort of a late-bloomer. Between the start of her freshmen year and the start of her junior year, she grew six inches. She has a wiry strong frame, a nice fluidity to her game, and she’s a talented shooter / scorer at all levels. She led all juniors in scoring last year at 23.1 points per game, and she shot an impressive 53% from the field. She has already given a verbal commitment to play at Davidson College next year.

Sylare Starks, 2019, 5-8 W, Homestead H.S.

Sylare is a strong, physical, and athletic wing prospect. She is great attacking the basket and finishing inside, she has really improved her perimeter shot, but she also handles the ball a lot for her Homestead team. She has the physical tools to develop into a really nice defender, and she is oftentimes a matchup nightmare for opposing guards because of her power. She has committed to play at Detroit Mercy.

Jada Roberson, 2019, 5-7 G, Pike H.S.

Jada was one of the key contributors on Pike’s Class 4A State Finals team in 2017. But during the Summer of 2017 she tore her ACL, and she was limited to just a couple of games last season. She returned for the grassroots season this year and looked like she was returning to form. She is a strong, physical and athletic kid who is great attacking the basket. She can score the ball in bunches or she can facilitate a little. She could be Pike’s go-to player this season.

Trinitee Harris, 2019, 5-8 G, Elkhart Central H.S.
[caption id="attachment_11187" align="alignright" width="228"] Trinitee Harris of Elkhart Central

Not too many people statewide know much about Trinitee, and it’s a shame because she’s a talented wing guard. She is a wiry strong, bouncy athlete who plays with a nice motor. Her brother (IU) is actually one of the NCAA’s best long-jumpers & high-jumpers. Trinitee scores it primarily going to the rim, but she can hit shots outside, she’ll defend hard, and she can run offense. She has developed nicely over the years.

Tori Handley, 2019, 5-9 G, Jeffersonville H.S.

Tori was a late-bloomer because she was very thin when she was younger. She is still somewhat slender, but she’s noticeably stronger, and it has paid dividends with regards to her ability to play through contact. She is a long, fluid, and smooth guard. She is a solid shooter around the perimeter, and she plays with a good motor. She’s also a willing & capable defender who has already committed to SIU-Edwardsville.

Sophie Bussard, 2019, 5-7 G, Tippecanoe Valley H.S.

Sophie is a tough-nosed, gritty, feisty, do-everything type of combo guard that you win with. She is willing to take on any role to help her team, and she does them all well. She has some length, she’s a solid athlete, and she has a versatile skillset. She can handle and run offense, she can hit shots, and she will mix it up defensively as well. She has verbally committed to Division I Southeast Missouri State.

Reagan Hune, 2019, 5-9 W, Carmel H.S.
[caption id="attachment_11188" align="alignright" width="278"] Reagan Hune of Carmel

Reagan was kind of the forgotten starter on last year’s talented and deep Carmel squad. Make no mistake, though, Reagan can play too. She is long, fluid, and athletic. She can handle and pass it, and she plays almost like a point forward at times. She can glide to the basket for scores, but defensively is where she can be most effective, as she has quick hands & feet and can defend a variety of perimeter players.

Dazia Drake, 2019, 5-9 G, Owen Valley H.S.

Dazia is a long, fluid, and smooth combo guard. She slashes through defenses and can shoot / score the ball at all levels. She still needs to gain some strength, but she is always productive and helps her teams any way that she can. While she isn’t always a standout performer, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen her have a poor outing…she’s just solid. She has committed to play at Huntington University.
2019 2-Guards 11-25:
