Martin Luther King was one of the greatest leaders in United States history. He was a brilliant and compassionate person who could draw people toward him. MLK changed the world by being a fearless leader. There are many outstanding leaders in Michigan girls high school basketball. There are athletes that will make a difference and lead their generation. There is no better time to celebrate our future leaders than on MLK Day. [player_tooltip player_id="22371" first="Oretha" last="Cooper"] (PG, Taylor High School) Cooper is a skilled point guard who can get buckets and distribute the ball. She’s a dedicated and hard working athlete. Those traits extend to Cooper off the court as well. She will do something great someday and will make her community a better place. [player_tooltip player_id="2392" first="Laya" last="Hartman"] (5’10", SG, Okemos) Hartman is an elite player nationally and is a top notch shooter. She’s also an incredible student and selfless athlete. Hartman carries these traits off the court as well. With her intelligence and willingness to help others succeed, there is no better person to guide a community into the future. [player_tooltip player_id="2386" first="Rickea" last="Jackson"] (6’2", Wing, Detroit Edison) Jackson is one of the best players in the country. She has simply outworked much of the competition. Jackson is an athlete who truly appreciates the things that the game has provided her. People will follow a dedicated and fearless leader like Jackson for years to come. [player_tooltip player_id="22325" first="Kate" last="McArthur"] (5’8", SG, Warren Cousino) McArthur can score from anywhere on the floor. However, she is also focused on getting her teammates involved. McArthur just wants to be successful. She will help guide her generation with an eagerness to see others reach their full potential. [player_tooltip player_id="2404" first="Mahri" last="Petree"] (5’10", G, Arbor Prep) Petree is a star that contributes in so many ways. She’s an elite defender and a force on the glass. Petree is a focused leader for Arbor Prep. People will continue to follow her because of her intelligence and calm leadership style. Petree will see greatness on and off the court. [player_tooltip player_id="22324" first="Jeanae" last="Terry"] (5’11", CG, Wayne Memorial) Terry is a versatile athlete. She can play and guard multiple positions. Terry has learned the art of leadership from one of the best in Coach Mitchell. She’s done more than just learned how to be a leader, she’s excelled at it. Terry will guide basketball teams and communities in the future. [player_tooltip player_id="22353" first="Asaria" last="Turman"] (6’0", C, Ann Arbor Pioneer) Turmon is one of the best true post players in Michigan. She’s an elite rebounder and always a double-double threat. Better yet, Turman truly loves and cares for her teammates. People will always stand behind a compassionate leader like Asaria Turmon. She will undoubtedly make a difference in the world.
