After actively evaluating prospects during the high school season, we now have 278 sophomores listed, with 172 ranked heading into the AAU season. Height, size, speed, athleticism, fundamental skill development, the position a player is projected to play at the next level, and performance in different competitive settings are all taken into account. Our goal with every class is to accurately group prospects into the correct categories of college potential/projection. By the end of senior year, each class breaks down into clear categories: Power Four D1+, D1/D2+, D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+, NAIA/D3/JUCO, and NAIA/D3 reserve. As I've written many times, the levels of college basketball intersect, cross, and differ in competitive ability throughout all the divisions. All high school classes do not have the same size, talent, or level of college talent. However, based on my tracking of commitments the past three years, there appears to be a predictable trend in Michigan.

Taking data from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes into consideration, there could be approximately 410 prospects per grade who can play some level of college basketball. There will always be multisport athletes who don't play travel basketball or play in some remote area where we just don't get the opportunity to identify them for our rankings, despite our best efforts. Using averages from the past three classes, my expectations moving forward are that there could be anywhere from 10-20 D1 commits, 20-30 D2 commits, and 125-140 NAIA/D3/JUCO commits in a particular class. Applying that understanding to our rankings basically means that, depending on the class, the top 20 ranked prospects project as D1/D2+, 21-50 D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+, 51 and beyond could range anywhere from NAIA/D3 varsity, NAIA/D3 reserve, or JUCO, depending on the college program. We believe this 2028 class is on the higher end of the D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+ spectrum as far as depth, numbers, and potential--specifically at the guard-wing spots.

At GVSU Elite Camp last summer, a speaker asked the girls who make their beds every morning to stand up. Jana was one of three in the large group who had that discipline. Her skill, length, athleticism, relentless two-way effort, and on-court performance continue to put her in an elite category. Jana won PGH x Foster Swift Sports Player of the Week and averaged 19.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, three assists, and three steals per game. She holds a D1 offer from Oakland University.

Raquel holds D1 offers from Detroit Mercy, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Norfolk State, and Illinois-Chicago.

Jayna turned in another All-Conference campaign for Shelby during her sophomore campaign. She averaged an eye-popping 19.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 2.2 assists per game. Jayna has physical strength and toughness that you don't see often at the guard position. She's a bulldog on both ends of the court and a fierce rebounder. Her versatility as a slasher and perimeter scorer makes Jayna an extremely challenging matchup.

Liz has blossomed into one of the top forward prospects in this class. Her height, two-way impact, and skills in the post translate to a high level of college basketball. She received SVL All-Conference Second Team honors at Mount Pleasant, averaging a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds per game, while shooting 70% from the charity stripe. Liz made a great impression in her first tourney with MBA UAA at the PGH Great Lakes Kickoff. Her touch around the rim, persistent rebounding, consistency at the free-throw line, and length impressed our PGH scouts.

Mayrese was named Cascades Conference Co-MVP and received recognition as a PGH Player of the Year Finalist for the second straight year. Mayrese led Michigan Center in scoring at 12 points per game (Double figures in 15 of 21 games). She also led the Cardinals in 2 PT FG% at 47%. Mayrese finished second in rebounds (4.3), assists (3), and steals (2.3) per game. Her task every game is to defend the opposing team's top guard and her on-ball defense is a staple to her game. She moves quickly laterally, keeps her hands active, and empties the tank to keep the ball in front of her. Mayrese is a crafty point guard who can finish in traffic, drop in floaters over lanky defenders, and bury threes from well beyond the arc. She holds a D2 offer from Davenport University.
