State Tournament Day 3: Top Performers
At the end of each day we will be putting forth our top 10 performers from the day’s action. You can see the top performers from the six games on Wednesday below.
Megan Johnson – 5’9 G – 2020 – Aplington-Parkersburg
**17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists**
While Aplington-Parkersburg didn’t take the win, I thought that Megan Johnson played really well throughout the game. She was very efficient from the floor as she went 6-of-10 from the field. Scoring 17 points on just 10 shots is a very good line to have. She also pulled in seven rebounds and dished off two assists in the superb performance. The bright spot on a team that struggled mightily for three quarters, I think Johnson is going to have a huge year next year.
Alli Masters – 5’10 G – 2019 – Central Decatur
**21 points, 3 blocks**
A little like Johnson, Masters was very efficient from the floor needing only 13 shots to score 21 points. She has the ability to go off at anytime and had stretches in this one where I thought that she was the best player on the floor today. Was very solid on the defensive side of the ball blocking three shots and grabbing two steals. I like her length and ability to handle the ball with the willingness to pass it off.
Konnor Sudmann – 5’9 G – 2019 – Treynor
**20 points, 9 rebounds**
I thought Sudmann was full of energy while she was playing and that rubs off on her teammates. She was very impactful on both ends of the floor and hit a few huge shots in the game to give her team momentum. She rebounded the ball really well today and dished off three assists as well. Love the way that Sudmann played today and while her teammates struggled a little bit she was there to pick them up.
Ella Larsen – 5’9 W – 2021 – Newell-Fonda
**12 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals, 4 assists**
I think you can look at Larsen’s stats and see for yourself how much that she impacted the game in every single way. She flirted with a triple double all while only playing 21 minutes in the blowout win. For a sophomore, her performance was pretty incredible. I thought she played very well within herself and didn’t back down whatsoever. She can do it all, shoot it, score it, defend, pass – Larsen is a jack of all trades.
Lizzy Parker – 5’4 PG – 2019 – Marquette Catholic
**19 points, 3 steals**
Parker is a small guard who can handle the ball a little bit but also impact the game in more ways than one. Yes, she did have eight turnovers, but when the game was on the line she played very well. I thought that her ability to pressure the ball was outstanding and it led to multiple turnovers by Clarksville. I really thought that her scoring ability was a little bit under-the-radar as she took 12 shots to get 19 points, but in the end it was Parker who led the comeback win on both ends.
Kori Wedeking – 5’9 W – 2020 – Clarksville
**20 points, 11 rebounds**
While Clarksville struggled, and Wedeking did as well at times, I thought that her overall performance was very reflective of her skill. She’s a tough-nosed rebounder and a pretty solid shooter. She didn’t shoot it that well in this one, but passed it well and I thought made the right decisions on the whole. Wedeking is a player who can be much more efficient than she was tonight and I think there is a breakout waiting to happen in the next few months.
Rachel Leerar – 5’7 PG – 2021 – West Hancock
**23 points, 6 assists, 5 steals**
In a game that West Hancock led the entire time, Leerar can be the one to thank for that. Even if you take away her point total, she still would have had a solid game. She passed the ball better than anyone else today and could have easily had a couple more assists. She was deadly from inside the perimeter and once at the line she knocked her free throws down. Really enjoyed what she brought to the table on both ends of the floor as well as her motor for 31 minutes of play.
Madison Gettler – 5’8 F – 2019 – CAM
**19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals**
As a senior, you want to give your all in every game like it is your last and Gettler did just that this evening. She scored the ball, she rebounded well, and got her hands on the ball in traffic. You can easily tell that she has a passion for the game and quite simply wants to be on the floor. Really liked her ability to play bigger than her height and you can see that she knows the game inside and out. A really solid player who just “gets it”.
Shateah Wetering – 5’11 F – 2020 – Montezuma
**17 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks**
As soon as you look at Wetering you just know that she is special. Skilled and fluid with the ball, she is a very good player on this Montezuma team. She struggled a bit early on in the game as she ran into a bit of foul trouble, but once she got back in she was phenomenal. She was great on both ends of the floor, especially the defensive side of the ball. Didn’t let CAM get any good look at the basket and buttoned down when she was needed most.
Elise Boulton – 5’5 G – 2021 – Montezuma
**13 points**
Boulton played pretty steady today. I thought that she was a big reason that Montezuma came back and won the game because she was the one that secured the momentum. In the second quarter Boulton hit a couple 3-pointers in a row followed by a Conger 3-pointer to give Montezuma the lead going into the half after being down 12. She’s a really good shooter with a knack for knocking down clutch shots. She’ll need to continue this streak from today to make a run.
