It didn’t take long for him to realize that he had a trio of girls in that class ready to do something special. The Lady Explorers were starting 3 freshman very early in the season. They proved to be key to the success of the team. Adrenna Snipes, Kamryn Fandrey and Abby Williams were all voted as unanimous selections to the all conference team. They were undefeated in conference play and finished the season 21-10. For the season they were the 3 leading scorers and averaged over 10 steals per game between them.
I was able to catch up with all 3 this weekend at the Threathoops tourney. They all play together for the BallHogg Academy 16u Black team. We talked about how the freshman season went, what they are working on this summer and some of their goals for the 2019-2020 season.
All three girls agreed that one of the most exciting aspects of the season was the fact that nobody expected them to have the success they had. Snipes was known to some coming into the season, but the abilities of Fandrey and Williams were a well kept secret. The 3 combined to provide consistent ball pressure and defense that was a key to season. Adrenna broke the school record for steals in a season and Kamryn and Abby are always on the floor fighting for loose balls. The all out effort was exciting to watch unless you were the opposing team. While Snipes did more of the scoring, it is obvious that Fandrey and Williams have the ability to score also. Snipes had a couple of huge games including 33 against Taylorville in a win and 40 in a win against Staunton in the regional semi final.
All 3 girls want to improve their shot during the off season. Both Abby and Kamryn get open looks when defenses focus their attention on Adrenna. They want to knock those down consistently. Because Adrenna can drive so well, she is often given the outside shot. So, she is hoping to improve so that teams will have to pay for that strategy. In addition all three get to the the foul line frequently, so the improved shooting will help in that aspect. In addition to their skills all three are working on getting stronger and more athletic through weight lifting and cross training.
The 3 run together with the BallHogg Academy Black team. Their Crossover coach, Darnell Marshall merged his program together with Brandon Hogg and his BallHogg Academy program. Darnell does a great job with the girls. He will work with them during the off season to improve all aspects of their game. Playing together all off season will just continue to build on their chemistry..
Like every team coming into a new season the girls point towards the common goals. They have hopes of winning 20 games again and securing another conference title. They will be trying to get one step further and bring home a Regional title. No matter how the alignment goes there will be stiff competition. This group will leave it all on the floor no matter who they face. With continued work and improvement, these young ladies need to be on the radar of area college coaches.
