Frederick 63, Long Reach 44.
The defending champion Cadets just wore Long Reach down over the course of the game. They arguably have the two best players in the tournament on their roster. Long Reach has a couple of standouts as well.
Makayla Daniels, Frederick Senior guard, Arkansas
The versatile point guard did not have her best game but she was still a major factor. She scored 17 and added 4 rebounds while playing stellar defense. She has a ridiculous motor and will step right in and contribute at Arkansas next year.
Rose Bubakar, Frederick, Sophomore
Rose is a 5’11 power forward and this looked like the game where she took that next step to a legitimate major D1 prospect. She was always a tantalizing player with her size and athleticism, but she has added some offensive skills. She scored 27 points and 13 rebounds, with 7 of the boards coming on offense. She is an exceptional defender and is capable of staying with guards on switches. Her willingness to push the ball in transition speaks to her improved handle and confidence to use it.
Lyric Swann, Long Reach, Senior, UMBC
Lyric had an outstanding season and finished her career with an 18 point performance. The lefty sharp shooter finished the game with a broken finger which showed her toughness. She will follow in her mom’s foot steps and play at UMBC next year.
Jaelyn Swann, Long Reach, Senior, Muhlenberg College
The other half of the wonder twins will play at Muhlenberg College next season. She is the longer of the two and her 3 point range is just as impressive. She has good instincts and a moves well without the ball.
Poly 65, Aberdeen 27
This one was never in doubt as Poly jumped out early and coasted to an easy win to advance to the 3A championship game.
Cassandra Smith, Aberdeen, Sophomore forward
Smith scored 19 of Aberdeen’s 27 points. She had a very efficient game, shooting 7 for 10 from the field and added 7 rebounds. She has length at 5’11”, and a decent handle. I would like to see her play a little more aggressively on offense to get to take her game to that next level.
Jada Gross, Poly, Junior Guard
Jada caught my eye with her ability to knock down those corner threes. She’s a long wing at about 5’9 and uses that length on defense effectively. She has a chance to secure some offers this summer if she adds to her game.
