State Tournament Day 5: Top Performers
At the end of each day we will be putting forth our top 10 performers from the day’s action. You can see the top performers from the six games on Friday below.
Nicole McDermott – 5’5 PG – 2020 – Cascade
**26 points, 4 steals**
McDermott only had four points in the first half, but turned it on in the second half. As Grundy Center was getting out to a lead, McDermott was the one that handled it well and kept Cascade in the game. She was very efficient from the floor as her 26 points came on just 11 shots from the field. Such a good finisher at the rim and is very clutch when at the line. Knocked down all of her free throw attempts in the game and was just a pure player today. She’ll come back next year with a vengeance.
Hailey Wallis – 5’10 G – 2019 – Grundy Center
**25 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals**
Like McDermott, Wallis waited until the second half to do her scoring as she had 21 points in the second half. After being 6-of-11 from the field in the first half, she came back and was 4-of-4 in the second half. In that half she showed off her shooting ability by knocking down three 3-pointers. She’s such a long and fluid player that just has athleticism packed into her frame. Really solid on both ends of the floor for Grundy Center today. Committed to Minnesota State.
Konnor Sudmann – 5’9 G – 2019 – Treynor
**34 points**
Sudmann set a 2A State Tournament record with 34 points and they were all much needed points. She staved off a comeback bid by Central Decatur almost on her own by scoring 22 of Treynor’s 33 points in the second half. Sudmann was aggressive at getting to the line and was able to get some foul calls. She has a great motor and the ability to go both ways with the ball. I really thought that she had the best performance on the day between everyone throughout the semifinal games.
Alli Masters – 5’10 G – 2019 – Central Decatur
**24 points, 3 steals, 2 blocks**
Masters hit some huge 3-pointers in this one and the all-time Central Decatur scoring leader should have a lot to be proud of. She left it out on the floor today and converted some huge and-1’s to get her team back into the game. She’s such a sturdy guard and is very good off of the catch-and-shoot in the corner. You can’t really let her get that far away from you or she will drain a 3-pointer or pump it into a drive. Such a complete player.
Emma Atwood – 5’10 W – 2019 – Central Decatur
**19 points, 8 rebounds**
Atwood is a very strong wing who plays both like a guard and a post. She has a strong base in the lane and can spin into a bucket but she also has the ability to bring it up the floor as a guard. She is the definition of a “point forward” as Atwood is such a versatile player. Great touch and footwork around the basket. Doesn’t back down from anyone either as she just kept going at the rim. Plays with great passion and energy.
Macy Sievers – 5’7 G – 2022 – Newell-Fonda
**16 points, 10 steals, 5 assists**
Sievers was spectacular coming off the bench today. She is a lengthy freshman who is really good at getting pressure on the ball and getting it out in transition. She is a really good passer and found the open man almost every single time today. Packs a little bit of a scoring punch as well on the ball. Love how she provided energy off the bench and did everything that was asked of her today. She is going to be a player that turns into a very good player over the next few years for this Newell-Fonda team.
Rachel Leerar – 5’5 G – 2021 – West Hancock
**25 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists**
Leerar was superb as she put her team on her back and scored 15 points in the second half. She is such a quick ball handler and has the ability to get into the lane and score. She was all over the floor today as she rebounded the ball well and pushed it up the floor. Leerar is a thin guard but very good with the ball in her hands. She’s only going to get better and in the Championship game she is going to need to be firm with the ball as Newell-Fonda will press the entire game.
Zoe Young – 5’10 G – 2019 – Valley
**23 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 blocks**
Young came up huge once again for her team. She did it all and led them to a state title. In Young’s final game in high school, she went out on a high note and had a fantastic tournament overall. She didn’t shoot it great tonight, but she powered inside and made multiple shots at the basket. Great on defense and had a ton of assists. She was moving the ball around and scoring herself. Committed to Maryland.
Shea Fuller – 5’7 G – 2019 – Valley
**22 points, 5 rebounds**
Fuller caught fire and made six 3-pointers in the game. She was key early on knocking down quite a few in a row to give Valley the momentum. She’s a great shooter and you have to have a man on her at all times. Fuller was 6-of-8 from behind the ac this evening and before Young got going she was the offense. Love her game as she does all the little things. Good ball-handler and can run the offense. Committed to Minnesota State.
Adrianna Katcher – 5’11 W – 2020 – Center Point-Urbana
**16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks**
Katcher got out to a very fast start and with good reason. She played like a senior in this one and was great at going to the basket early on. She hit a couple jumpers and was all over the floor on defense. You could really tell that she did not want to lose this game and she played tough. Really aggressive with the ball and was a joy to watch the entire game. She was rewarded with the 3A State Tournament MVP. Committed to North Illinois.
