2021 Class: AAU Superlatives Heading Into the Live Weekend
In this article:
The first NCAA certified period is starting on Friday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon. Scholarships will be earned and trophies will be handed out. Looking ahead, I thought it would be fun to hand out some superlatives leading into the weekend.
Most Likely to get their First High Major offer: Mya Meredith, Scott. At this point I may be beating the drum too hard for Meredith but all signs point towards Mya having a huge AAU season and breaking out in a big way. She has the size and scoring ability that coaches love. Look for her to start getting high major offers after already picking up a couple of mid major D1s already.
Most Likely Team to go Undefeated this Weekend: Kentucky Premier EYBL. Premier is the biggest name in Kentucky Girl’s AAU for a reason. They play at the highest level with most of the most talented players in the state on their roster. Strictly for those reasons, I’ll go out on a limb and predict a perfect weekend for the Premier 16u ladies.
Most Likely Player to Get Their First D1 Offer: Harley Paynter, Boyd County. Paynter is a big scorer playing on the big stage with Premier’s 16u EYBL team. If she just plays up to expectations, she should get a couple of offers. If she comes out and shoots the cover off the ball (she’s capable), Harley could become a big time recruit over the next few months.
Most Likely Player to Rack Up Offers: Marisa Gasaway, Eastern – Rebounding is one of the rarest skills in the game right now and Gasaway is an elite rebounder. She averaged over 13 rebounds per game this year. She’s also a capable scorer and should show that this AAU season without having two D1 players getting the majority of the touches like at Eastern this past season.
Most Likely to Score the Most Points in a game this weekend: Macey Blevins, Wayne County. Blevins is known for her ability to score the ball and this weekend shouldn’t be any different. Nineteen points per game as a Sophomore is impressive on it’s own. But when she’s scoring at all three levels and hitting threes, she can get in the 25-30 point range easily.
Most Likely to Get Hot and take over a Game: Brooklynn Miles, Franklin County. One of the bigger names in this class right now, Miles is a scoring point guard who can score in a variety of ways. Brooklynn is used to playing with the ball in her hands, making it even easier for her to get hot in a hurry. When she’s got it all working, Miles is among the best scorers in Kentucky.
