First off, I would like to thank Elbert Kinnebrew and the Cal Sparks program for the hospitality he showed us at the 17th Annual Cali Classic. This tournament was hosted at Mater Dei High Schools, Muerello Athletic Facility. Kinnebrew and his staff did a great job of running this event as they have for many year before. Scorers tables were on point and they also kept scoring stats for the girls on the score sheet. We appreciate him putting us up and we will covering his event from now on. Elbert was even gracious enough to send me his Team Rosters from all of his teams, so that I might highlight some of his players on our site here at Prep Girls Hoops. Thanks again Elbert, you are a class act... Here are the list of (10) 2020 Girls We Saw That Impressed: 2020, 5'9, CG, Oaks Christian, Taylor Donaldson - Showed me this weekend that she is the total package and should be rewarded for the effortless way she plays the game with so much passion on both sides of the floor. She is relentless on defense, best defender on her team, help side, on ball, off ball and just a down right dog on the defensive side of the ball. She also is a certified bucket getter, she can put it on the floor, shoot the midrange off the pull up and also hit you with the long ball from three. (Plays for West Coast Elite 17U) 2020, 6'2, PF/C, Long Beach Poly, Ashlee Lewis -Showed her inside power skills with finishes at the rim as well as a nice midrange shot from the middle of the key on a pin down. Her rebounding skills are impeccable. Ashlee is a bully down low and it is not much you can do to stop her in the paint as I witnessed that weekend. (Plays for West Coast Elite 17U) (Offers: CSUN & CSUF) 2020, 5'8, PG, Camarillo, Alyssa Marin - Is able to drive baseline and finish with a reverse layup and also showed her nice touch from the three point line. (Plays for Troop West 17U) 2020 - 5'10, SG, La Jolla County Day, Tehina PaoPao - Showed she is the teams go-to-girls when it comes to being a scorer and leader on this team. Tehina is able to beat you off the dribble for tier-drops in the paint, step back and hit the midrange shot from anywhere on the court and also knock down the three ball with great consistency. TP is one of the toughest kids in the gym to guard, she is always in attack-mode. (Plays for San Diego Waves) (Offers: Every PAC12 school) 2020 - 6'3, SF, Roosevelt HS, Michelle Onyiah - Showed her toughness and skill in the paint for the Cal Sparks Nike EYBL team and was watched by a number of eager High Major D1 coaches in Hampton, Virginia. Shoots the ball well from midrange, but is a force mostly in the post. Physicality is at a premium with this girl, she does not know how to play any other way. 2020 - 6'2, C, Etiwanda HS, Destiny Okonkwo - Destiny showed us this weekend that she is the best rebounder in the gym, she is relentless and will run you over to get a rebound. Not much of a scorer as of yet, but she the undisputed best rebounder on her team and in the gym this past weekend. (Plays for Cal Stars Valley Elite) 2020 - 6'0, SF, Sierra Canyon HS, Alexis Mark - Alexis showed us why she has the (8) Offers pending to schools right now, with her slashing ability, her superior defensive skills and that uncanny way she can get a bucket, by taking you to the basket and finishing with her athleticism. This kid is a straight bucket getter in my book. (Plays for Cal Stars Valley Elite) (Offers: UNLV, SDSU, Pepperdine, Fresno State, LMU, Hawaii, Seattle University and San Jose State) 2020 - 6'2, PF, Chaminade HS, Alexis Whitfield - Showed she is what they call today, a Point-Forward which means she is capable of running the point guard position pretty efficiently for her high school team and club team. She was very effective when she did so, was able to attack off the dribble and finish with either hand, drive and kick to the open shooters and was able to knock downt the long ball for her team. She was dominant in every game I saw her in this season. (Plays for Cal Storm Team Taurasi) 2020 - 6'3, C, Santa Monica HS, Chantal Moawad - Showed us that she is a walking double-double each and every night on the floor. She will beat you up inside with her physicality and then out rebound you on both sides of the floor. Skilled inside the paint, seals and dominates and can hit the short 8 footer with some consistency we saw. (Plays for Cal Storm Team Taurasi) 2020 - 5'8, PG, Sierra Canyon HS, Vanessa De Jesus - Showed she is a great point guard that can run a team and also get points for her team when needed. She always makes the right play and plays the game with multiple speeds of attack. Her pull up three ball is consistent and her drives to the rim are strong with finishes thru contact. She is also a willing defender that is able to contain her opponent from getting to the rim on her. Was very impressed with her game. (Plays for Cal Storm Team Taurasi)
