Fresno, CA - Last weekend, the CIF Central Section held its annual boys and girls Section Championships at Selland Arena, an event that is one of the best basketball championships in the state. Friday featured even division boys and girls championship games (Divisions 2, 4, and 6), while Saturday featured the odd division boys and girls title games (Division 1, 3, and 5). This article focuses on the standout players from Day 1 of the Section Championships from the girls games. In this article I include relevant stats from each player in their respective title game, how they played, and their impact on the game. I start with the standout players from the Friday night ladies headliner, the D2 title game.

Division 2: Sierra Pacific Golden Bears (Hanford) 64 Bakersfield Christian Eagles 48

[player_tooltip player_id='1278042' first='Apajok' last='Ayuen'] (5'7 | 2026) - Sierra Pacific (POG)

Ayuen had a relatively quiet game scoring the ball for the first 3 quarters of the game, with 6 points between the 2nd and 3rd quarters. But the Lady Eagles made a push in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to single digits with more than 3 minutes left in regulation, and it was Apajok who came up big in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of her team-high 16 points with 8 of those coming from the free throw line. It was her consistency from the line that allowed the Lady Bears lead back up to a near twenty point lead and a final of 64 to 48. Ayuen made her presence felt on the defensive end, using her length and perimeter defensive skills to generate 2 steals and a pair of blocks to turn defense to offense. Apajok was named Player of the Game and capped off her high school career with back to back Section titles.

[player_tooltip player_id='1251941' first='Nyang' last='Ayuen'] (5'7 | 2026) - Sierra Pacific

Ayuen had the hot hand early and put up a stat-line that highlights her all around impact on both ends of the court. Nyang had 7 points in the opening quarter to help her team get out to a 14 to 5 lead going into the 2nd quarter. Ayuen added 6 more points in the second half for a total of 13 points for the game. Nyang displayed her play-making ability and court vision with 5 assists, her defensive prowess on the perimeter or jumping passing lanes with 4 steals, and her ability to impact the boards and be a quality positional rebounder with 5 boards in the game. I personally felt that she was the games MVP, but those clutch free throws down the stretch from her sister Apajok seemed to seal the POG honors, but that takes nothing away from the impact that Nyang had on the game to help the Lady Bears win its second consecutive D2 Section championships. Despite the surrounding talent on the Lady Bear roster, it will be hard to replace the high-level play of the Ayuen sisters and their impact on both ends of the court.

Mia McLemore (5'9 | 2027) - Sierra Pacific

McLemore held it down in the paint against the Lady Eagles, as well as displayed her ability to run the lanes and get open in transition in Sierra Pacific's win over Bakersfield Christian. McLemore had a big first half, in particular the second quarter, as she would score 7 of her 12 points in that period to help her team increase its lead to 34 to 19 at the half. McLemore also did a great job on the glass with 7 rebounds and was serviceable as a rim protector with 2 blocks. McLemore displayed great touch on shots around the basket and made herself available in the dunker spot for several of her baskets.

Lylah Love (5'6 | 2028) - Sierra Pacific

The standout sophomore Love contributed in a major way with her ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc to help lead her team to back to back D2 Section championships. Love displayed quality guard play and good decision making with the ball in her hands, finding open teammates off the drive and kick pass resulting in 3 assists. But where Love really shined was with the 3-ball, off the dribble or the catch, as she would connect on 3 threes in the second quarter and finish with 12 points to help her team edge out the Lady Eagles. Love will be called upon to be more of an impact player next year with the graduation of the Ayuen sisters, and she showed she is ready to take on a bigger role.

[player_tooltip player_id='896576' first='Kimora' last='Gardner'] (5'6 | 2027) - Sierra Pacific

Gardner connected on a 3-ball in the first quarter, but left her mark on the game with a big 3rd quarter scoring the ball to keep her team with a double-digit lead going into the final period. Gardner scored 8 of her 11 points in the third period, which was of the team's 15 points that quarter. Gardner will be another player that will be relied upon to score the rock more next season and her double-digit scoring in the D2 title game showed she is capable of being one of the main scorers next season.

Kalaya Miller (5'8 | 2026) - Bakersfield Christian (POG)

Miller has been the Lady Eagles second best scorer this season, but with standout freshman Brielle Merdrano her scoring responsibilities have increased. Miller had a solid first half with 7 points and a three pointer to help her team stay in the mix with the fast paced Lady Bears. After a quiet two point 3rd quarter, Miller went off in the fourth quarter and pulled her team to within 9 points of Sierra Pacific but it was too much of a hill to climb, as the Eagles would fall to the Golden Bears 64 to 48. Miller would score 13 of her game-high 22 points in the final period and earned Player of the Game honors for the runner-ups. Miller was relentless on the boards as well, as she would finish with 11 rebounds to cap off a double-double showing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1736712' first='Tia' last='Nichols'] (5'11 | 2027) - Bakersfield Christian

Nichols had a sensational showing in the D2 Section title game, putting up a monster double-double and doing all she could to help her team stay within striking distance of the Lady Bears. Nichols put up a stat-line of 13 points, 19 rebounds, and 2 blocks, as she put on a rebounding clinic, which she has done in every game I have seen the Lady Eagles in person this season. Nichols kept a balanced scoring attack as well for BCHS, as she would score in every quarter. Despite her valiant effort on the glass and the scoreboard, the Lady Eagles needed more from its role players to keep pace with the Lady Bears, who had 5 players score in double-digits. Nichols will be a welcomed returner next season, as the Lady Eagles will only be graduating Miller.

Addilyn Prestridge (5'11 | 2027) - Bakersfield Christian

Prestridge has had some impressive games scoring the ball and impacting the boards for the Lady Eagles, especially in the two games in the Section playoffs when the team was without its leading scorer [player_tooltip player_id='1268725' first='Brielle' last='Medrano']. Prestridge had a strong 3rd quarter, scoring 6 of her 10 points in that period. Prestridge also displayed her length and impact around the basket, pulling down 7 rebounds and altering shots in the paint and on the perimeter. Prestridge has a smooth jumper with range to the 3-point line and will be a key piece of the Lady Eagles next season, as it looks to get back to the Section title game at full strength.

Division 4: Torres Toros (Madera) 34 Tulare Union Tribe 23

JLynn Mitchell (6' | 2026) - Toros (POG)

Mitchell put on a dominant display in the paint on both ends of the D4 Section title game to lead her team to the championship win. Mitchell had an impressive double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, as well showing the defensive prowess with 6 steals to earn Player of the Game honors for the Toros. Mitchell was automatic from the free throw line, as she would go 7 for 7 from the charity stripe, accounting for most of her points.

Jillian Villalobos (2028) - Toros

In a game where scoring was not a premium, Villalobos's 9 point outing were huge to go with Mitchell's game high 13, as it would be the points needed to propel the Toros to the D4 Section title over Tulare Union. Villalobos connected on a three ball to show her ability to space the floor, which would help Mitchell control the paint even more.

Kaiden Valdez (5'9 | 2026) - Tulare Union (POG)

Valdez did her part to help the Tribe contend for a D4 Section title. Valdez had a solid stat-line of 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals to show her impact on both ends of the court. Valdez did not get much help from her teammates in the Section title game, but she kept her team close controlling the boards and turning defense to offense.

Division 6: Foothill Trojans (Bakersfield) 55 Exeter Monarchs 43

Isabel Garza (2027) - Foothill (POG)

Garza and the Lady Trojans opened up the Section Championship weekend and walked away with its second D6 Section title in the last three years. Garza led her team in scoring with 15 points to go along with 5 rebounds and a dazzling 6 steals to earn Player of the Game honors for the Lady Trojans.

Marihya Portis (2026) - Foothill

Portis chipped in 14 points to help her team win the D6 Section title over Exeter. Portis also accumulated 4 steals, turning defense to offense to help her team get easy transition points. Great way to end her high school basketball career.

Ameii Christer (2027) - Foothill

Christer had an impressive D6 title game, as she would put up a monster double-double of

10 points and 15 rebounds. Christer has been one of the top rebounders in girls basketball in the state and she made sure to bring that aspect of her game to give her team second chance scoring opportunities, as well as easy buckets on putbacks.

Georgia Lockett (5'11 | 2026) - Exeter (POG)

No stats, but Lockett was named Player of the Game for the runner-ups Exeter.
