Continue ReadingAs a key role player for the Class 4A fourth place team this past season, Lexi Moriarty has remained consistent with her Truth 17U Black team this AAU season. The 5’11’’ senior at Benet Academy is a solid “Three and D” player who knows the limits of her game, but is continuously finding areas to improve on.
“Since our team was so talented I had to find my role on the team,” Lexi said about her junior season at Benet. “I contributed mostly with my defense on some of the talented players that we played against.”
With good height and length to go along with her athleticism, the ‘’lockdown’’ defender role fits Lexi well. She is quick enough on the perimeter for opposing guards and has the size to hold her own in the lane.
“My ability to read the floor is another one of my strengths,” said Lexi about her other qualities. “I know to shoot it when I am open, but I also know when to pass it to set up my teammate for a better shot.”
She is a smart player who is willing to get her teammates involved, and this is what every coach dreams of.
After being asked what she is looking to work on this summer Lexi mentioned, “I am looking to be more aggressive offensively this AAU season. I will also be working a lot on my shot to improve the consistency of my shooting.”
Something that has stood out in Lexi’s game this AAU season has been her work in the lane and in the transition game. She has a good burst when she is aggressive and when matched with her length she can finish well at the hoop over most defenders.
What’s going on in recruiting?
“I don’t have any offers right now. I am getting D2 interest from Rollins and Lindenwood and D3 interest from Rochester, Christopher Newport, WashU, Grinell, and Emerson.”
If the trend continues, and Lexi keeps doing what she’s doing this July and August, I definitely look for that list to grow and offers to start coming in before her senior season begins. Coaches are always looking for smart and hardworking players who understand their role and excel and that’s exactly what you get with her and her game.
