For this freshman class, Division I offers will carry most of the weight, especially since offers aren't being handed out as early or as easily as they once were. From there, true college potential, evident skill, size, production within a competitive high school or AAU program, upside, and long-term projection will all be valued. High school stats alone will not hold much weight. These rankings will continue to expand over time, and spots can change due to injuries, new offers, development, or simply other prospects getting better. Below is our first look at the Top 5 prospects in the Illinois freshman class.

There's no doubt that Joy is the best player in this class, and honestly might have a true argument as one of the best players in this state, let alone a Top 10 player in the country. She is well beyond her years, and the talent and skill set she has are deeper and stronger than anyone in her age range. Legit 3-level scorer; ball-handling is sharp, and the vision and overall IQ are elite as well. She plays the game effortlessly and has a feel that has to be seen in person, not just talked about. Eliteness runs in her family, and she is carrying that mantle well.

Kenna will be a special talent to watch over the next four years. Her skill set alone has set her apart from others in this class, but to me, it's the poise and maturity she shows that point to a D1 prospect. She's strong on the offensive side of the ball when it comes to scoring, controlling the flow of the game, and staying active. Defensively, she's adding to it and has the wingspan and focus to be near elite on that end as well. The game seems to come naturally for her, but there's definitely evidence of extreme work being put in behind the scenes. LT is no stranger to having some of the best players in the state, and they're about to showcase another one this year. Write this name down.

Nazareth produces D1 prospects every year, and Brown has all the intangibles to be in that category. Her playmaking will set her apart, and the work ethic and simple love for the game will only add to that. This kid loves basketball and has a real passion for it, and outside of the clear skill she has, that passion and love for the process hold more weight in my opinion. Playing in a high level system and maybe not playing as much as she's used to could bring some challenges, but that may actually add to her overall potential. Could end up being one of the best things for her development.

Eshoo has remained a highly covered prospect over the past couple of years, and rightfully so. She has what you need on offense and has the frame and motor to earn the label of a two way prospect. As she finds her footing with Loyola and consistently shows that she's a potential D1 prospect, the offers could start to show up within the next year. She already has the skills that widen the gap from others at her position, but keeping that consistent pressure and continuing to show it has to be one of her goals if she wants to remain in this top pack

Beam put a lot of people in Illinois on notice after her showing at our Freshman Showcase, and when you play as hard as she does on both ends without losing your impact, that stands out. She is a two way threat who can control an entire game and should have those types of showings in year one. If that impact remains high against high level talent and competition, she'll definitely be able to hold onto her top-10 spot. Strong upside.
