The B1G is a power conference that is full of high major girls basketball talent. There are elite teams and top notch players from all over the country throughout the conference. When there is action coming from the B1G in Michigan prep basketball, its always ’B1G’ news. There were 2 teams from the B1G that were extremely active in the state of Michigan this past weekend. The University of Iowa got a huge commitment and threw out a big time offer. Meanwhile, the University of Michigan hosted the UofM Women’s Basketball Shootout.
Iowa’s Commitment
[player_tooltip player_id="27970" first="AJ" last="Ediger"] (2021, 6’2", F, Hamilton High School) Ediger is a big time talent here in Michigan and a huge commit for Iowa. Last high school season she led Hamilton to a 25-1 record while averaging 20 points per game and just under 10 rebounds per game. Ediger was an AP 2nd Team All-State selection as a sophomore. She had offers from other B1G schools including Nebraska and Illinois. Ediger is a nightmare to match up with because of her ability to score from the wing as well as post up smaller defenders.
Iowa Offer
[player_tooltip player_id="147713" first="Ruby" last="Whitehorn"] (2022, 6’0", G, DEPSA) Whitehorn received an offer from Iowa over the weekend. She has the potential to be a top 10-15 prospect on a national scale. Whitehorn already holds offers in the B1G from Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan State. She is nearly unstoppable when attacking the rim off the bounce. Whitehorn can change speeds easily and fluidly, leaving defenders scrambling. She has an outstanding mid range game that features a nice pull up jumper.
UofM Shootout
There’s no bigger stage in Michigan high school basketball than in Ann Arbor at UofM. This event fetured some of the best high school teams and players in the state coming together in preparation for next season. Here’s just a few examples of what could be seen this weekend at the UofM Shootout: Ann Arbor Pioneer - An extremely young team last year showed off the growth of their game and maturity on the court. Up and coming stars like guard Mo Hicks will lead them to a lot of success next season. Arbor Prep - Arbor Prep has turned into a smaller school powerhouse in Michigan. They feature players like [player_tooltip player_id="147714" first="Mya" last="Petticord"] who is a top guard talent nationally. Hartland - This will be one of the most dangerous teams in Michigan in the foreseeable future. Led by players like [player_tooltip player_id="23748" first="Whitney" last="Sollom"], [player_tooltip player_id="147746" first="Lauren" last="Sollom"], and [player_tooltip player_id="147739" first="Amanda" last="Roach"], they look to contend for a trip to the state championship. Howell - There’s a lot of excitement around the girls basketball program in Howell. They will be led by star [player_tooltip player_id="126241" first="Kaylee" last="Wendel"], who looked very solid over the weekend. Hudsonville - This is a team with tons of potential with young athletes like [player_tooltip player_id="147728" first="Alaina" last="Diaz"]. Midland Dow - They have a reputation for being an extremely disciplined team. Midland Dow looka to continue their run of success. Saline - This squad, led by [player_tooltip player_id="27971" first="Ella" last="Stemmer"], looks to be putting all the pieces together. The could be a threat to win conference and district championships nect season. Parma Western - This is definitely a team to keep your eyes on when high school season arrives. Trenton - They’re a tough program with talented and dedicated athletes.
