As we recently updated our player rankings, I wanted to take the time to touch on each position group one by one. The 2-Guard position in Indiana’s 2021 class is neither one of strength nor weakness, but instead it is a steady, solid, and consistent group of really nice basketball players/prospects. Below we take a look at the Top-20 2-Guard prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2021.

I’ve long been a fan of Jayla Smith of Lawrence North High School, but I wasn’t sure how she would fit in with the rigors of the 17U EYBL, especially with her slender frame. It turns out she has been just fine. Jayla is as steady and confident as any player out there, and she has a very short memory. She can miss four shots in a row, but she’s going to take and make a big one down the stretch. She is quick/fast, long, and her handle has improved as well. Look for her to lead a deep and talented Lawrence North squad to several more wins this coming Winter.
Alana Striverson recently moved into Silver Creek High School from Louisville’s Male High School, and we introduced you to her sister (Kynidi) in our recent 2022 Point Guard review. Alana is a strong, physical, and athletic wing guard, she plays with a very good motor, and she does a variety of things on the floor. She can defend multiple positions, she rebounds her position well, and she can score the ball at all levels. If you have ever seen Zakia Rasheed (#3 2021 2G) play, I think Alana would remind you somewhat of her.
Penn High School’s Trinity Clinton has always been a very nice, productive basketball player, but her improved speed and quickness has really helped her recruiting quite a bit. Her feet are noticeably quicker, and she is changing directions much smoother, so it has helped her defend better and go by opponents off the bounce much easier. She has always been strong, fairly well-rounded skillfully, and she’s a tough-nosed and physical wing. At the end of May she earned her first Division-I offer.
Bedford North Lawrence High School will be undergoing a makeover the next couple of years, transitioning from a team with one of the best frontlines, to one with an incredibly deep and talented backcourt. Two of those perimeter players are Chloe McKnight and Mersadez “Irye” Gomez. Chloe has played significant Varsity minutes since her Freshman season, because she is an absolute sniper from the perimeter. While she shoots it at a high level, she also looks much leaner and more explosive this Summer, and she put on a show last Friday night in Louisville, burying a number of shots, and with range. Irye is a long, athletic, multi-dimensional wing who can handle the ball and run offense, she can slash to the basket for scores, and she can knock down an open jumper, plus she’s versatile defensively. Look for her minutes to increase this season.
Welcome back to Carley Culberson of Yorktown High School. Carley severely injured her knee playing Junior Varsity football last Fall, but she returned to the grassroots scene in Louisville last weekend and looked solid. She is a long, quick/fast, and explosive combo guard. When healthy, she can blow by most defenders, knock down open jumpers with range, and she’s a real problem for opposing ball-handlers at the defensive end of the floor because of her length and quickness.
